As a new year begins, and people around the world set New Year’s resolutions — committing to regular exercise, practicing meditation, or starting a gratitude journal — many people are resolving to organize their homes, and keep them that way throughout 2021. Analyzing five years of Yelp data from 2015 to 2019 reveals that consumer interest for home organizers spikes early in the year. In fact, so many people across the country get organized and reset during the month of January that it led to the designation of January 14th as National Organize Your Home Day.
To celebrate National Organize Your Home Day, we’re naming the “Most Organized Cities” in the U.S. To determine the list, Yelp’s Data Science team measured consumer interest in home organization businesses — including reviews, photos and page views — as a share of consumer interest for all home services businesses among the largest U.S. cities over the last two years (December 1, 2018 through November 30, 2020). We identified the top professional home organizer in each city using a number of factors including total volume and ratings of reviews.
As we reported in our 2021 Home Trend Forecast, searches for and review mentions of home organization business increased 39% in 2020 compared to 2019*, and searches and review mentions for home organizers were up 56% in September 2020 compared to July 2020, indicating a steady increase in interest in home organization.
Jeni Aron of Clutter Cowgirl, a top-rated Brooklyn, NY-based home organization business, says, “Getting your home organization projects started can often be the hardest part. Just a few sessions with a professional will put you on the right track, and set you up for the year with a tidy, chaos-free home for you and your family.”
