Wilman joined our team seven years ago as an Associate Account Executive, and since then, he has worked his way up the ladder in our Sales Development Program. Tell us about your journey at Yelp
I started at Yelp seven years ago. When I think about that, it’s hard to believe that it’s been so long. This has been the longest job I have ever held, and I am still going strong! After starting as an AE, I moved to our Inbound team, where I handled phone calls from business owners who called Yelp. From there, I took on the role of Midmarket Account Executive in our Midmarket Sales org. Eventually, I tried out management, but I realized that being an individual contributor suits me best. So I came back to Local Sales as a Senior Elite Account Director 3, which is my current role.
It’s been quite the journey, and for that, I am so thankful. I have learned so much in each of the roles I’ve had the opportunity to hold at Yelp. I am grateful that I work for a company that has given me so many different options and avenues when it comes to the direction of my sales career. I believe those opportunities are the reason that seven years doesn’t feel like seven years. It has been one journey after another, and I have learned so much about myself throughout it all.
What does a typical day look like in your role?
A typical day consists of calling businesses that I believe would be a great fit for our advertising program. Normally, I make about 80 calls per day, and my goal is to reach the business’s decision-maker so that I can pitch them our advertising products.
How do you stay motivated to hit your goals when you’re having a tough day?
I believe that having a strong ‘why’ is important for getting through tough times. My career at Yelp has allowed me to reach new heights in my lifestyle, and my ‘why’ is being able to maintain that lifestyle. I come to work and give it my all each and every day.
Tell us something you learned from the Yelp Sales Development Program that made you a better salesperson
The Yelp Sales Development Program has helped me discover my superpowers as a salesperson, such as communication and personability. The program has allowed me to have a clear understanding of what my areas of opportunity are and the skills in which I excel. It has not only made me a better salesperson but a better person overall.
How does Yelp support your work-life balance?
I have always admired how my work-life balance is a priority for Yelp as a company. Yelp encourages us to take time off and provides additional benefits to help us create and maintain that balance. I’ve never experienced this at any of my previous jobs.
How does Yelp’s leadership show you your work is valued?
Our leadership loves to celebrate wins and recognize their people. They have created a team environment in which everyone feels valued and seen. After seven years with Yelp, this has been one of the most consistent things I’ve experienced here.

I am so proud to be part of SomosYelp, which is a group for the Latinx community and its allies at Yelp. We have meetings where we discuss topics that are important to our community from our history, to great Latinx businesses, and so much more.
