In the spirit of giving back this #GivingTuesday, Yelp hosted its first ever Volunteer Fair in two of its offices, San Francisco, CA and Scottsdale, AZ. Both Volunteer Fairs focused on giving a platform to a diverse range of nonprofit organizations in each city, and gave our employees a chance to learn more about serving an array of different communities.
Here are a few nonprofits we featured at these fairs:
Reading Partners (SF Bay Area)
What do they do?
Their mission is to help children become lifelong readers by empowering communities to provide individualized instruction with measurable results.
What kinds of volunteer opportunities do they offer?
Commit to as little as one hour a week and Reading Partners will provide you with a highly effective, easy-to-use curriculum, in-person training and on-site support and the opportunity to make a tangible difference. Rock Medicine (SF Bay Area)
What do they do?
Rock Medicine provides all medical coverage at many classic Bay Area venues such as Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, UC Berkeley’s Greek Theatre, Shoreline Amphitheater, Toyota Amphitheatre, and many other venues.
What kinds of volunteer opportunities do they offer?
Whether you’re a doctor, nurse, EMT, or are Basic Life Support CPR certified, you can volunteer to provide care at concerts, community marches, celebrations and other events. Check out more information on how you can help Rock Medicine here.
Duet (Phoenix)
What do they do?
Duet partners with individuals, businesses, nonprofits, municipalities, government organizations, and faith communities to offer free-of-charge volunteer services for homebound adults, as well as comprehensive services for family caregivers and grandparents raising grandchildren. Duet also introduced the concept of congregational health programs led by faith community nurse to the Phoenix community.
What kinds of volunteer opportunities do they offer?
Duet helps bring hope to homebound adults facing challenges related to aging or other health issues. Some of the ways volunteers can help include getting groceries or going grocery shopping with someone, visiting someone, or assisting a homebound person with paperwork, respite, or computer training. Future for KIDS (Phoenix)
What do they do?
Future for KIDS provides mentor driven out-of-school time programs and camps that focus on academics, athletics, and ethics to improve the lives of youth facing adversity.
What kinds of volunteer opportunities do they offer?
Future for KIDS offers the ability to be a mentor. As a mentor, volunteers will work in small groups with youth, serving as a positive role model in their Discover Your Future Program. This typically requires a weekly commitment of 2.5 hours at schools or at sports camps. Learn how you can help here.
