Day in the Life of Jordan McCrady: Account Executive, Phoenix

Jordan McCrady is an Account Executive in Yelp’s Phoenix office. We talked to Jordan to hear more about his work life at Yelp.

A Little Background

I moved to Phoenix from Kansas City in October 2015. Before I started working at Yelp, I was an avid Yelp user. I used the app to find someone who wouldn’t butcher my hair, and now I’m a loyal user for life!

My Morning Routine

I start off the morning by thinking about the outcomes I want for the day. I firmly believe in positive self-talk — if you believe in what you want to accomplish, there is nothing that will stop you. Typically, I make goals for how many appointments I need to set that day and create a game plan for the business owners that I’m scheduled to talk to. The biggest thing for me is to make sure I’m hyper diligent about working my accounts with urgency. This can be the most challenging at times because I do a great job engaging with business owners, but that also makes it difficult to manage my time. I always focus on finding the balance to ensure I have a successful day.

Why It’s Exciting

With so many things going on, my day can change at the drop of a hat. I have to be willing to adapt — a window of opportunity can open at any moment! I like that I always have to be on my toes and that every day is different. The job is a great fit for me because it gives me the autonomy to make the job my own. If you look at our sales floor, you see hundreds of Account Executives who all have the same goal, but everyone has the ability to do the job their own way. I work with like-minded peers who are self-motivated and fun, and everyone here cares about my success. I love that Yelp allows me to be myself; people don’t only buy ads with us because they believe in Yelp, they buy because they believe in the AE who sells the product as well!

Advice To Future Account Executives

There is tons of opportunity here, but nobody is going to walk up and hand it to you. You need to speak up and let your superiors know what you want — and prove that you deserve what you’re asking for. I combine ferocious work ethic with a desire to get better every day, which allows me to succeed and love the role.

Why Living In Phoenix Rocks

1. The weather. I get to wear shorts in February!
2. I love the outdoors. There are mountains everywhere I look and plenty of places to explore. I recently invested in camping gear to take my adventures to the next level!
3. Music fuels my soul. I grew up going to shows, so I love Phoenix because I get to see my favorite bands at the local venues.
4. I have a five-month-old Golden Retriever named Brody. You may find me taking him on outdoors adventures or to the dog park to make some friends of his own.

Future Goals

I know that the work I do now will pave the road to my future. In the short year that I’ve worked here, I’ve risen from entry-level through multiple promotions and now take on several different responsibilities in the office. I hope to eventually transition into management, where I can also utilize my leadership skills and experience to lead my own sales team. From there, the sky’s the limit! There is opportunity to advance as long as you want it. That’s how I’ve opened every door thus far, and I don’t plan on stopping.
