How did you know you wanted to pursue a job in sales?
Entering the workforce after college, I knew that sales would be an invaluable skill to learn. You are selling something in every job you have and in almost anything you do. I am also very financially motivated, and I knew sales would be a great way to have a high earning potential.
What is your advice to someone interested in sales?
In sales, confidence is key. Business owners will respond well to your excitement and conviction. It’s a skill that takes time to learn, so work hard, ask for help, and be patient with yourself.
What does a typical day look like in your role?
My morning always starts with a big cup of coffee while I get our 5-month-old daughter ready for the day. Once I sign on for work, I review our team’s KPIs and performance from the prior day. I plan our team round-up and any coaching sessions that need to happen that day. Most of my day is spent helping reps prepare for their calls, listening and providing feedback on calls, and coaching them in different areas to help strengthen their sales skills. I also love identifying businesses for my reps to call and will send them a few bullet points on the brand/industry to get them excited to reach out. I always try to end the day with individual and team wins and start my prep work for the following morning.
How do you stay motivated to hit your goals during a tough day?
There will always be ups and downs in sales and your attitude significantly impacts your performance. When I have a tough day, I try to get some fresh air, drink a coffee, and dive back in! I will also reach out to my directors if I need additional support.
Tell us something you learned from the Yelp Sales Development Program that made you a better salesperson
Sales is all about active listening and asking the right questions. You want your prospect to be doing most of the talking so you can better understand who they are and the goals they want to achieve.
How does Yelp support your work-life balance?
Shifting to remote work has allowed me to spend more time with my husband, daughter, and of course, our two dogs. We’re also encouraged to use our PTO which has allowed me to take some amazing international trips during my time at Yelp. I’ve traveled to Thailand, Iceland, Greece, and Italy!
How does Yelp’s leadership remind you that your work is valued?
We have weekly leadership team meetings and weekly 1:1s where praise, feedback, and wins are always shared and applauded. Some quick words of gratitude over ping, email, or VC all go a long way!
Tell us about a community that you are proud to be a part of at Yelp
I love being part of the YelpParents group and the YelpMoms group. Being a part of these groups has been so helpful in getting more comfortable navigating being a new parent while having a full-time job. I’m grateful that Yelp encourages us to get together and share our experiences and questions.
