Meet Sehnoosh, a Senior Associate, User Operations. Sehnoosh works on the Data Management team to ensure that business information for millions of business listings on Yelp are accurate, meet quality standards, and adhere to our established eligibility guidelines.
Tell us about your journey at Yelp
I’ve been at Yelp for 5 years and started out in the Data Management Team. I later moved to the Fraud Analytics Team for a year and a half before ultimately returning to the Data Management (ListOps team). Our team handles complex issues such as unmerging listings that were incorrectly merged, Business Owner Account access issues, and the Local Inspector Value Entry System (LIVES) program, also known as Health Scores on Yelp. I manage the LIVES partnership with Hazel Analytics (Yelp’s Data Partner) along with SBI Engineering. The LIVES system ingests hygiene data on more than 750,000 Yelp pages (and growing), and lists information about health inspection jurisdictions.
What’s the most rewarding part of working at Yelp?
Honestly, it might sound cheesy to say, but Yelp does make the world a better and safer place. Yelp provides such a wide range of different business information that is immensely helpful for consumers to make smart decisions. There are so many examples of this, from improving public health by connecting food service businesses, regulators and consumers, to cautioning people about businesses that may be associated with overtly racist actions, and creating a new business attribute that helps businesses communicate their COVID-19 vaccination requirements.
It’s a beautiful thing to reflect on and to know that you work at a company that is making a positive impact.
Tell us about a community at Yelp that you’re proud to be a part of
Yelp Muslims! We are a small community of Yelpers. Yelp Muslims is an employee resource group for Yelpers who identify as muslims but anyone is welcome to join.
What do you enjoy most about working from home, and how do you stay productive?
The best part about working from home is getting back those extra couple hours that I used to spend commuting. It was a journey (literally), and I’m happy that I get to spend those hours on myself because it makes me feel relaxed and more productive throughout the day.
What happened during your best day at work?
To be honest, my best day of work was launching the Hazel Analytics partnership on nearly 700,000 business pages, representing nearly 70% of the U.S. population. It was a challenging initiative, but the amount of gratitude and appreciation I received from my peers was heartening and immensely encouraging.
