Meet Maurice, a Manager on our Customer Success team! Maurice is celebrating his third Yelpiversary.
Tell us about your journey at Yelp
I started my journey at Yelp in August 2019 in Local CS as an Inbound CS Manager. After eight months of finding my rhythm, I became more involved with various pilots and projects within Local CS. About six months later, I joined our recovery team, which handles our strategic clients. My career took off, and I leveled up my conversational strategies and skills with our contracted advertisers. For six months, I would continue to hit my target and quota, so I challenged myself to interview for leadership. In February 2021, I became an associate manager for an Inbound Local CS team, and I truly began living my best life! Shout out to team Mo-Town!
What is your favorite part of your role?
Watching others around me level up in their careers and watching them grow as wonderful Customer Success Managers!
What is your #1 tip for being productive while working from home?
Feeling inspired and not feeling monotonous about the day and the tasks we have to manage. Waking up earlier to eat breakfast or drink coffee can positively change the day’s productivity levels versus waking up and running to the laptop. So find what inspires you and use that as motivation for your job. That will open the ceiling to endless productivity.
Tell us about a time that you’ve helped a Yelp customer achieve their goals or solve a tough problem
In the summer of 2020, I helped a client understand how Yelp could be a tool to gain clients, not only today but later down the road once their local area lifted in-person restrictions. They were a bit hesitant at first, as they were a newer business on Yelp. Fast forward two years later, that business is still on Yelp, advertising, and seeing very successful results! They put their trust in Yelp during a tough time, and it has paid off in a big way for them! I am so happy for them and look forward to continuing to witness their success!
How does your manager remind you that your work is valued?
Recognition can come in many forms, and our directors do a fabulous job calling those moments out! Whether it’s YelpLove, ordering someone a meal, a quick ping, or a shout-out in an all-hands meeting – it’s all appreciated, and I’m glad to see it’s consistent.
Tell us about a community that you are proud to be a part of
SomosYelp is the Yelp Employee Resource Group I am most proud to be a part of because I’m one of the original leaders that helped start the group. We have plans to continue the rapid growth of the YERG and how we can make an impact in our local Latinx communities.
