Tell us about your journey at Yelp

My journey at Yelp began in September 2017. I was living in New York and on the hunt for a new job in sales. I submitted an application, and fast-forward to January of 2018, I received my offer! In April of 2018, I moved back to my hometown of Washington D.C. and was the 90th employee in Yelp’s newest office. For the next three and a half years, I spent my days cold-calling local business owners and showing them how they could find value by advertising on Yelp. It was a grind, but I loved the variety of people I got to speak with and the teams I was on. Six months ago, I decided it was time to transition into a consultant-type sales role and joined the Midmarket Sales team. Now, I am building presentations and proposing large budgets for medium-sized businesses across the country. I couldn’t be happier!

What’s the most rewarding part of working at Yelp?

Two things come to mind. The most rewarding aspect is helping business owners grow their business through advertising on Yelp. In initial talks with business owners, I get to know them and the business they have built. Sometimes, they have a lot on their mind about what is helping their business grow and how Yelp can be a part of that. Once I understand what they need, I am able to show them an aspect of our program that can help them meet their business needs. The second most rewarding part is being a resource for coworkers and new employees. I’ve been here for four years, so a lot of people reach out to me with questions and I’m always happy to answer them!

What do you enjoy the most about working from home, and how do you stay productive?

To be honest, working from home was an adjustment. I loved the office (anyone who knows me knows this is true). However, when it comes to working from home, I love being able to listen to music or sports talk shows while I work. It is much quieter than the office, and when I am doing something a little more complicated I can get it done more efficiently. I also love the standing desk I got!

What’s something that can only happen here?

The friends I’ve made over the last four years are the best. From my training class to my current team, my coworkers are my friends and that is something that never happened to me at any of my other jobs. Yelp is a great place to work!
