Emily’s Seven Years of Success at Yelp

Meet Emily S! Emily is a Partner Sales Manager on our Channel Sales team, and she has been with Yelp for the last seven years. Today, she is giving us an inside look at her journey at Yelp and what she thinks is key to maintaining a healthy work-life balance nearly a decade into her Yelp career.

Why did you want to work at Yelp?

I wanted to work at Yelp because I used the Yelp app all the time! After college, I moved to Detroit and used it to navigate my new city. I found my hair salon and even my apartment.

What does a typical day look like in your role?

I round up with my team in the morning to talk about our goals for the week. After that, my day is filled with having 1 on 1’s with each rep on my team, leadership meetings, and game planning different approaches to our agency partners on any upgrades or new campaign launches.

What is your #1 tip for staying productive while working from home?

It’s important to build a routine and stick with it. Most importantly, build a pre-work morning routine that you look forward to –- I read The Daily Stoic every morning and use the 5-minute journal.

How do you stay motivated to hit your goals when you’re having a tough day?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions, that’s how you learn.

How does Yelp support your work-life balance?

Yelp does a great job at making sure meetings are productive and valuable. Every time we do have a meeting, I’m always excited to engage with the people I’m talking to. I also love that we have wellness days that we are encouraged to use whenever we feel the need to take a day off. Yelp is also great at providing fun activities to spruce up the week, like organizing cooking classes, panels on nutritional guidance, or tips for working at home.

How does your manager or Yelp’s leadership let you know that your work is valued?

We meet weekly and go over my team’s progress. Our numbers show our work is paying off, but my manager also makes sure to go the extra mile to encourage and remind me that it is paying off.
