Say “Moin Moin” to Eric 'Pappers' Papstein – one of Yelp Germany's most successful ever Account Executives. A keen semi-professional footballer and dedicated beard grower, Eric has been a huge success in his short time at Yelp. Calm, focused and very hard working Pappers is always at the top of the sales board and always the first to get a drink on Friday after work.
What did you do before coming to Yelp?
I had worked for 5 years as forwarding merchant for companies such as DB Schenker and Süderelbe Logistik. My main task was the processing of import and export orders. Thus, I started at Yelp without any selling experience!
How did you first hear about Yelp and the job opening?
I was quite bored and not very happy with my last job. I was looking for a new challenge and bumped into Yelp via a friend. I really liked the idea and the product from the start and applied immediately.
What's your title at Yelp and how long have you been with the company?
I am an Associate Account Executive, and I have been with Yelp for 10 months.
What comprises a typical day for you?
I need around 15 minutes with the metro to get to the office. At first I check my emails, and then I get stocked up with food and drinks for the day. And then it's about time for hitting the phone!
What's the best part of working for Yelp?
Almost all of my colleagues have different backgrounds, and it is great to get to know so many various characters. I really like the Yelp mentality. We are a modern and dynamic company and you have the possibility (depending on how hard you work) to build up a great career.
What is your favorite perk at Yelp?
I have to confess that I am a huge fan of the free snacks and drinks and of our Friday after work bar!
What has been your favorite memory at Yelp?
My first Yelp promotion after 2 months! And the next one is already within eyeshot 🙂
What separates Yelp from other places you've worked?
At Yelp I really feel a part of the whole team and of a fast-growing international company. Everybody is helping each other and very supportive as we all pusue the same goal. What I like a lot is that Yelp wants you to advance in your job and personality, and does everything to make you feel at ease at work.
Finally, what would be your one piece of advice for someone interested in your role?
Work hard, be positive and don't let yourself get dragged down by setbacks. If you start off your day and the things to do in a positive way and you try continuously to improve yourself, nothing will stand in your way to a successful career at Yelp.
Or in other words – live the Yelp Values: be authentic, tenacious & unboring and play well with others!
