Say hello to Lindsay S, an Inbound Senior Elite Account Director 4 on our Local Sales team. This month Lindsay is celebrating a huge milestone – 10 years here at Yelp! To celebrate, she is sharing what her day looks like in Local Sales, lessons she’s learned over the last decade, and more.
How has Yelp supported your growth over the last 10 years?
Yelp has supported my growth from when I started out in an entry level sales position, to moving up the sales ranking nine positions, to reaching the highest level of Local Sales. Yelp offers many training and growth opportunities, such as Yelp’s Learning and Development. All of these programs are accessible to me and other Yelpers to help us reach our greatest potential.
Looking back over the last 10 years, what has been your biggest takeaway?
Life surely changes a lot in 10 years, especially while raising children, however the one part of my life that remains consistent is my career at Yelp and the opportunity for advancement. My biggest takeaway is how thankful I am for my #FiveStarCareer.
How did you know that you wanted to pursue a job in sales?
I sold cars briefly before attending college and fell in love with sales. After college and having a couple of kids, I found Yelp!
What is your advice to someone interested in sales?
Consistency is key. Put in the effort day after day and the results will come.
Why did you want to work at Yelp?
After being a full-time mom for five years, I was ready to pursue a long-term career at Yelp. The benefits package Yelp offers was a really big draw for me, and I also loved the Monday-Friday schedule.
What does a typical day look like in your role?
As part of the Inbound Sales organization, I answer a high volume of inbound calls per day. I help business owners understand how Yelp works and the value of advertising for their businesses. I also work every day with other departments (Billing, Customer Success, and User Operations) to ensure we create the best possible experience for business owners. Other than that, I send lots of emails, make outbound calls, prepare for calls and meetings, and keep in contact with my manager and co-workers. All of this is done to hit my monthly target and other goals I’ve set for myself.
What is your #1 tip for staying productive while working from home?
The best advice I can give is to set daily goals and try to limit any distractions to be as productive as possible.
How do you stay motivated to hit your goals when you’re having a tough day?
My biggest motivators are my kids. I keep a picture of them on my desk and think of their future.
How does Yelp support your work-life balance?
The encouragement and support in maintaining a healthy work-life balance is my favorite part of working at Yelp. As a mom of two very active kids, Yelp allows me to never miss a sport, concert, school activity, or doctor’s appointment. Yelp provides a generous amount of PTO and Wellness time that increases with tenure.
