
Meet Jim, a People Business Partner on our People Operations team! Jim recently celebrated his second Yelpiversary. He joined the Business Partner team in November 2020 and supported our Local and Restaurants Sales teams, before transitioning to supporting the BizOps team at the start of 2022. He now supports our Strategy, Marketing, and Office of the CEO teams, in addition to BizOps.

What does a typical day look like in your role?
I support not only the business units I am assigned to but also the employees within. I spend a lot of time working with business leaders in these organizations to create a positive working experience for every member of the team – from culture, compensation, learning, and development, to org design.
What is your favorite part of your role?
My favorite part of my job is being able to see all of the amazing things that the teams I support are doing to drive revenue for our business. There are so many innovative ways that we drive users to Yelp and so many tools that we have for the businesses that use our platform. It’s really exciting to learn about that side of the business after working on the sales side at the beginning of my Yelp journey. We are all one big team, and everyone has a role in making this company a success!
What is your #1 tip for staying productive while working from home?
Lists! I block my calendar, not only with meetings but also with the tasks I need to accomplish. By doing this, I can ensure that I have time to work on the tasks that need to be done. Mapping out my time really helps me stay on task and organized.
How does Yelp support your work-life balance?
I have so much autonomy in my role, which was a bit of a challenge to adjust to at first! I wasn’t used to having this level of freedom at work. However, now that I understand the culture, I see that this is how we work at Yelp. Trust is instilled in our team members to manage their work and their life without parameters. I love that I am given the freedom to complete my work in a way that I can still prioritize my wellness and the things I love without question or guilt.
How do your manager and Yelp’s leadership show you that your work is valued?
Feedback is such a valuable tool, both constructive and uplifting. I can’t think of a week where I haven’t received some form of feedback since I started. My leaders want to see me grow in my career, and they celebrate every accomplishment along the way. Whenever I wrap up a project, team members reach out and thank me for the work I have done to drive things forward. Nothing goes unnoticed.
What motivates you every day?
I get up and log in to work each day because of my amazing team and the leaders who I support. I am energized by them and want to do better for them. I am excited to log in every morning and see which of my friends have pinged me just to say hi, offer support, or gossip about the latest episode of Real Housewives before we start our day!

I am so lucky to be on the leadership team for OUTBurst. I love living authentically while I work and connecting with people who are like me, support me, and who are different from me. We all learn from one another. It’s energizing to help organize workshops and events and see them come to life. I love feeling the impact and inclusion that we drive.
