Benjamin Franklin once said, "Wine makes daily living easier, less hurried, with fewer tensions, and more tolerance." His thoughts perfectly summarized our latest Elite Event here in Maine – Yelp’s Que Syrah, Syrah at Carpe Diem. For a couple hours we took a break from our busy, busy lives and toasted to good health, good friends, and whatever will be while seizing the day (or in this case, the evening!).
After playing wine-themed games (“Guess How Many Corks”; the correct answer, of course, was 207 to represent the great state in which we live) and trying our hands at making fun and creative wine charms, our hosts at Carpe Diem showed us what they are all about: "unpretentious simple elegance.” They treated each of us to a wine flight featuring a vinho verde, a rose, and a lambrusco. While sipping on our refreshing, light, and summery wines we enjoyed a parade of appropriate snacks including three varieties of cheese – manchego, ricotta salata, and a spicy mustard option -, green and kalamata olives, preserves, dried fruit, and assorted crackers. To compliment it all, two-bite cakes by The Winey Baker in mouthwatering caramel, delicious blueberry, and sweet strawberry were served at the end of the night.
And, because we like to live dangerously, our guests were all asked to wear white from head to toe… it should be noted that, impressively, not a drop dribbled on our dazzling duds. See the photos of our impeccable stylishness and the evening’s fun on Flickr; and be sure to check out the equally fabulous reviews here.
