On Thursday, June 14th, Yelp Elites and their guests had the opportunity to take an undercover look into a space unknown to the Yelp community and the local community at large; Mana Contemporary located in the Journal Square neighborhood in Jersey City. Seema U sums up the experience with her review: "When you think about Yelp, the real beauty of the site is not just the reviews but the opportunity to discover new places, find fun events, meet interesting people, and just have an online community. I feel like this Elite Event epitomized the spirit of Yelp." Agreed Seema U.
Mana Contemporary's professional staff were on site to highlight the 'Conference of the Birds' exhibit as well as speaking of the vision of this incredible place and it's desire to be a mecca for the arts. Artists who were on site welcomed Yelp with open arms and were ready to talk shop. Louis R asks himself where he is throughout the two hour event: "The MoMA, The Met, The Guggenheim? Some gallery in SoHo? Ah hellz nah…at the Mana Contemporary in JC, yo."
With local bites from JC's Indian eatery Taj Mahal, Stella's Emapanada's, SenseFoodability and cupcakes from Sophie Sophia, Yelpers were well fed and well hydrated from the copoius amounts of white wine that was flowin'. For those who needed a break from the booze, Fizzy Lizzy was serving up some delicious juice. David K's four course meal started at Taj Mahal "to taste some of their Chicken Tikka Masala served with basmati rice and some moist naan." Jen G samples the fried goodness of Argentina "Stella's Empanadas were to die for" while Lovet O loves "Sophie Sophia's tiny morsels of moist cupcakes."
Matt S grooved to DJ Rob spinnin' some beats ranging from 1970's soul and funk to 1990's r&b to the latest underground hip-hop: "The music set the mood for a fun evening. I had to go over to the DJ and thank him for playing a little Dead for the older folks in the room. He laughed." Yelp New Jersey learned tonight, that though the food and drink do matter, it's all about the space, place and the people!
Lookin' forward to the next one!
