Summer’s #YelpsFitClub here in Maine was a good reminder that you can have fun while working out (and that it’s important to never take yourself too seriously!). From vinyasa amongst the farm animals, empowering burlesque dancing accompanied by bottomless bubbles, and a one hour non-stop heart rate pumping cardio class, Yelp’s Fit Club had a little bit of everything!
If you’ve never done yoga with goats, you’re definitely missing out! In July we headed to a local farm to practice amongst momma and baby goats who bleated at us during bridge, sneezed near us during cobra, curled up on top of our feet while in mountain, and climbed our backs while in downward facing dog. It took “connecting with nature” to a whole new level. Check out the Reviews and Photos (which has a lot less yoga and a lot more goat snuggles among them) here.Georgia J: “This class was the best example of being your own person (or goat). Everyone was so engaged with the goats (or possibly distracted), that I never felt judged or pressured to go further or any other not-so-nice feeling that sometimes accompanies yoga (in certain settings).”
In August we revisited our friend MissE at Red Hot & Ladylike – a studio that empowers the everyday woman to feel sexy and confident through dance like burlesque – for a jazz cabaret class. After a glass of champagne, we let our hair down (for some, quite literally!) and learned a choreographed routine to “All That Jazz.” Reviews from the day can be found here.Deb W: “Miss E gave off an aura of both confidence and being relaxed which made me feel both ‘I want to be like her!’ and ‘I’m not afraid of her!’ In the hour long session she helped to coax out of me my inner burlesquey, moulin rougey, butt-spankin’ sexy self – so much so that at the end I was belting along to All That Jazz feeling like the epitome of Velma Kelly.”
We ended the summer season with one of the most intense workouts of our #YelpsFitClub careers: a one hour class at Orangetheory Fitness where we ran, then ran some more, rowed, then rowed some more to some seriously stellar music all to keep our heart rates up and within target range. Burning 1,000 calories never felt so good. Check out the Reviews and (very sweaty) Photos here!
Jocelyn A: “I think Yelp read my diary, as I’ve been wanting to try out an Orangetheory Fitness for YEARS!! All this time I’ve been too afraid, but the thought of being amongst friends at this event was just the motivation I needed to get my butt in the door. Speaking of butts…does anyone else’s hurt today?!?.”
