Throughout 2017 we highlighted an awesome way to get fit each and every month here at Yelp Maine through a series we call #YelpsFitClub. To end the the year we did a little vinyasa yoga, then we pretended we were rock stars (who are we kidding, we don’t need to pretend because we ARE rock stars), then we did a little more yoga. Let’s get physical!
If you’ve never done yoga with goats, you’re definitely missing out! In July we headed to a local farm to practice amongst momma and baby goats who bleated at us during bridge, sneezed near us during cobra, curled up on top of our feet while in mountain, and climbed our backs while in downward facing dog. It took “connecting with nature” to a whole new level. Check out the Reviews and Photos (which has a lot less yoga and a lot more goat snuggles among them) here.Sarah C: “Creating Space hosted this event in the fall which helped us warm up our muscles and remind us the importance of breath during a time when transition can make us forget the simple things.”
In August we revisited our friend MissE at Red Hot & Ladylike – a studio that empowers the everyday woman to feel sexy and confident through dance like burlesque – for a jazz cabaret class. After a glass of champagne, we let our hair down (for some, quite literally!) and learned a choreographed routine to “All That Jazz.” Reviews from the day can be found here.Jocelyn A: “The music was rockin’, the choreography was fun, and the workout was varied and challenging. It was fun to see this group of women enjoying working out on a Friday night and giggling the whole time. Amazing!”
We ended the summer season with one of the most intense workouts of our #YelpsFitClub careers: a one hour class at Orangetheory Fitness where we ran, then ran some more, rowed, then rowed some more to some seriously stellar music all to keep our heart rates up and within target range. Burning 1,000 calories never felt so good. Check out the Reviews and (very sweaty) Photos here!
Nora A: “I must admit with someone who is not flexible, I was glad I was given the opportunity to just push as far as I can go and do what I’m comfortable with. Finding inner peace, stretching your whole body and simply breathing has never been better.”
We <3 #YelpsFitClub. There’s nothing else like it: a totally nonjudgemental place where you can try something new no matter how far out of your comfort zone it may be. Yelpers conquered mountains this year – from learning self defense to goat yoga, from trying burlesque to reaching the top of a warped wall a la American Ninja Warrior style – and we couldn’t be more proud of their commitment to health. Here’s to a wonderful year of wellness!
