"Holy Hangover! Everyone knows that Yeeps, booze and fantastic food is the trifecta of perfecta." Preach it Tamara C! Truth be told, over 100 of Portland's Elite cavorted at Yelp's Elite Meat & Greet on 2/22/12 at the world famous Kenny & Zuke's Deli in SW Portland. It was two hours of old-school hobnobbery the likes of which 2012 has rarely seen.
Always prompt, P-town's finest gathered at 7pm on the nose outside of Kenny & Zukes. The Prince of Pastrami himself, Ken Gordon, was on hand to welcome the masses inside for a buffet of delish knishes (or as Jen T calls them: "wonderknish"), perfect pastrami sandwiches (which, according to Deanna N "tops any NYC deli"), bangin' bagel dogs, schmeared-up bagels and some chopped liver. Talk about down-home comfort food, Jessica K's "four favorite food groups of meat, bread, potatoes and beer were well represented." But the never-ending supply of savories was not the end of things, after bellies were full, dessert was served. House-baked cookies, lemon bars and brownie bites! Yes, there's always room for dessert.
Beer? Oh yeah! Yelpers enjoyed a selection of local brews including NInkasi Otis Oatmeal Stout, Widmer's W'12 Saison and Drifter Pale. For fiends of the fruit of the vine, some fine Cava was on pour. Chris L summed it up succinctly: "Amazing food, excellent beer and bubbles and of course the Elites. Ah, the Elites. So great to catch up with old friends and meet new ones, even if you guys did keep your clothes on. And Like an old-school Yelp Elite Event, this here fiesta was all about enjoying local food and drink, but most of all, getting to know each other. It truly was the meatiest of meet & greets!
Huge thanks to Ken Gordon and the fine folks at Kenny & Zuke's for pushing out plate after plate of deliciousness; HIlary B for taking photos (and being awesome), Matt W (my surrogate-Matt) for working the door; and of course the Portland Yelp Elite Squad, without whom none of this would be possible. I hope you met some new folks last night or at very least, became reacquainted with K&Z's incredible food!
Until next time, SYOY!
