Big hats. Dapper Gents. And enough fun and good times to make even Churchill Downs green with envy!
Dallas' Village Country Club was the scene of a soiree that had more than 1,000 enthusiastic Yelpers milling about for Yelp Dallas' biggest and most-talked about event of the year: Yelp's Dallas Derby.
"Let me just start off by saying, if you missed this event, you aren't the Dallas Socialite that you claim to be!" teases Danielle B.
Everyone came dressed to impress: "Women's colorful, broad-rimmed hats adorned the patio like wild flowers in a field. The men strutted around in freshly polished shoes and bowties like show birds looking for some tail feathers," describes Jodi G. Plus, "the entertainment was just grand! Indoors, you had access to Photo Booth Dallas, Ace's Wild Casino games, a bar, an RX chair masseuse, and Salon Boutique Academy make-up and
hair artists – all while viewing an actual film of a Lone Star Park horse race projected on
the wall and listening to current music played by Spin DJ Entertainment," she brags.
Outdoors was just as packed with party highlights thanks to live jazz from Sandaga 813, hand-rolled cigars from House of Cigars, croquet and cornhole, a shoe shine stand (The Gent's Place), a rewarding raffle, a hat competition, and
three bars by the pool. Oh yeah – and a real life horse for posing party-goers to strike a pose with! "Meeting Pistol from
Widowmaker Trail Rides was just the dose I needed to rekindle my Texan
pride," raves John C.
"I can't complain about a single thing…nope, not a single thing," Robyn M marvels. "The
food selection was wonderful and there were so many places that I have
been stalking on Yelp that had tables set up with samples of yummy
goodness!"
"Trailercakes were like little pieces of heaven in my mouth: that salty
caramel and the mint chocolate!!? Then layer on some Whiskey Cake… I
wouldn't mind gaining 5 pounds to munch on those all day," admits Emily L. "I gotta say Samosa Hut lit my tongue on fire which I cooled with some
great Revolver Beer. Nonna's catering was delicious as
well."
Janice R "ate about three lbs of some of the best guacamole" she's "had in a
long time from Sunset Lounge." Her other "favorite of the day were
tacos from Velvet Taco!" Hashem D went for Pop Diner's great "hot dogs and especially loved the chilli."
Vets like Kind Snacks satisfied cravings, while newcomers like Seattle's Best put their best Texas foot forward introducing their cool cafe cuisine to Elite VIPs with a special tumbler and kickass coupons.
The food frenzy fueled even more pleasure sensors with other unique flavors and spices. "The Samosa Hut in Irving, two types of very tasty meatballs from Zeno's
Famous Meatball Kitchen and the PB&J and Kermint cupcakes from
Trailercakes laid a safe foundation for the free-flowing drinks," explains Scott H, and boy – were there drinks to be had!
"Titos Vodka: What can I say, and I had a Graham's Arnold Palmer that was just the right kind of refreshing!" says Jo F. Treaty Oak Distilling, Woodchuck Cider, and Revolver Brewing boasted brews and cocktails of note as well.
All in all, there were "not enough stars!" Kathleen M insists. "I'd give it 10 more! What a great event!"
