So you think you know your burritos? Yelp is about to put that to the test.
We will be visiting 10 Mexican eateries over the next few months, sampling the wonderous delicacy that is the burrito in each spot. Each time you visit that fortnight's venue, you will get a stamp in your burrito passport, which contains all the critieria with which to grade your tortilla of tastiness.
Pablo Picante's Victorio Verde
El Maestro demonstrating the 'kiss' technique for correct Mezcal / Tequila drinking
Master Mezcalier – Sergio Inurrigarro
Some lucky folks attended the launch of the Burrito Blowout at Pablo Picante on Tuesday where they were treated to Pablo's full range of burritos, tortas and dips. You can choose from pre-designed burritos from the Cali carnitas (slow roasted pork mmm…) to the more waistline-friendly Paleo-burritos. If you like to take control of your own destiny, you can also choose from any filling plus their five choices of freshly made salsa. Oh, one more thing – if you haven't tasted a torta yet – try it out. As Spencer M put it; 'the Mexican take on a hot-filled sandwich. Featuring a fresh crunchy bread roll crammed with pork tinga and other delicious condiments (like a nice, spicy jalapeno alioli)'
Guests were then made their way through a few bottles of the finest Tequila and Mezcal on this side of the Atlantic, with a lesson on how best to throw them down the hatch (make a kissing movement with your lips and mix the alcohol with your saliva), by the Master Mezcalier, Sergio Inurrigarro, who was over in Ireland to support the Taste of Mexico Festival.
Pablo Picante's El Magnifico steak torta
Thanks to Pablo Picante for hosting the launch of the Burrito Blow Out and giving Yelpers a good background knowledge of the perfect burrito (and it's step-brother, the torta!)
If you didn't make it on the night, you need to get to any Pablo Picante by Tuesday 26th November to get your stamp before we move onto the next stop on the list! Make sure you 'check in' to avail of their special offer of €6 for any burrito and regular drink.
If you don't yet have your Burrito Blowout passport, email dublin@yelp.com to get your mitts on one ASAP!
Looking forward to many cheese-filled moments ahead of us. From the breakfast burrito to the seafood surprise, the call on Dublin's Burrito Boss is sure to be a tough one to make!
