Yelps bunte Fotowelt@Lomography Gallery Store

Was?

So, genug philosophiert.

==============================

Click, click, flash flash. That would be about the shortest summary of our latest Berlin Elite Event at the Lomography Gallery Store on Friedrichstraße. Hobby-photographers, professionals and wannabe-professionals all gathered yesterday night to learn all about Lomography and all the cameras. Out go-to-men of the evening were Daniel and Sebastian. In Berlin nobody seems to know the cameras as well as they do. They can help out with any question, issue, you name it. Until everyone had arrived the Berlin Elites had one very important task: find the winner of the photo contest of the "most Berlin" pictures. I would love to say that everyone had a fair chance… well everyone had a chance, but within a matter of minutes it was obvious who would win the contest: Katrin B! Congratulations on a great shot that apparently ressembles Berlin for the majority of the Yelpers! Check out the picture of the bubbles and the TV tower above! Lomography was so generous to sponsor two packages of film for her next Lomography experiments, thank you very much!

CollageKameras

Now we went on to the actualy main part of our evening: the camera workshop. Daniel explained us all the Lomography cameras and what can I say, there are A LOT of cameras: action camera with several lenses, Fisheye, Baby-Fisheye, Diana, Mini-Diana, the 360° Spinner (my favourite), Sardina and Holga. He knows which film to use, has tried several experiments to alter the film and picture quality, sharing films with friends for double-exposure and so on, the sky is the limit. Or have you every thought about putting a film back into its tin, filling it with cooked risotto rice and let it stand for two weeks? Apparently the living organisms change the film and create cool effects. I would have never known if it wasn't for Lomography!

Lomo is actually the name of an old soviet agent camera, which is pretty much indestructible, as Daniel showed us by hammering the camera into the table. It still works 😉 Lomography therefore describes the photography that developed around the Lomo camera. The lomo-pictures often are imperfect, with vignetting, sometimes over-exposed, shaky, blurry, however the concept is to capture a moment, a unique second in life, no posing. Some of the cameras don't even have a finder, therefore you simply have to aim right or just try it out and get a feeling for the camera. Enough with the theory, we are here to try them out. Everyone could choose any camera. Put in a film, battery: check, let's go! We went exploring on Friedrichstraße and the neighbourhood. Berlin, watch out, crazy Yelpers lomographing the streets.

Obviously there is still one mystery to be solved: How will our pictures turn out that we took? No digital pictures, but oldschool materialistic pictures on paper. Please share your pictures here by uploading them, once they are developed. Also I always appreciate your feedback a lot, therefore leave your reviews of the evening right here. The pictures can be viewed here and we already got a preview right here until flickr is done uploading.

Thank you all for coming to this unique evening! Another big thank you goes to the mindblowing team of the Lomography Gallery Store and Daniel and Sebastian in particular. Thank you for introducing us to the magic of Lomography and answering all of our questions. Another person my thank you goes out to is my photographer Käthe of Kunst und Können, who captures the Elite Events like nobody else could. Thank you for those amazing pictures!

Until next time, SYOY*
