Bike enthusiasts and supporters of Cycles of Change APC came out on bike, foot, and car to celebrate the third anniversary of the nonprofit community bike shop in Alameda!
Residents in and around Alameda Point enjoyed slices of cheese pizza from Rotten City Pizza in Emeryville, creamy delights from Scream Sorbet (which you can find at farmer's markets all over the Bay), and family-friendly imbibes from Julie's Coffee and Tea in Alameda.
Bike-powered music and entertainment came as a courtesy from Rock the Bike, an innovative Berkeley bike advocacy and performance group. However, it wasn't a solo effort–Paul (aka Fossil Fuel) and Mafa rocked in on the mic and maracas while attendees took turns cycling on the bike-powered sound system.
of the Alameda Point and greater Alameda community to work on their
bike and shop for affordable refurbished bicycles. Attendees filled out surveys and volunteered to host bike drives, since the organization relies on bike donations to refurbish for retail.
Cycles of Change APC youth employees Will Haskins and Ebony Smith shared moving stories about how working at the shop gave them confidence and fulfillment in helping out customers.
During the course of the day, attendees checked out bikes, played air hockey, got a tour of the shop, and had a great family fun day in Alameda! Find more photos here.
