Bay Area yelpers got cheesy at an opening preview Yelp Elite Event at The Melt in San Francisco last week. The Melt is the brainchild of Jonathan Kaplan (inventor of the now defunct Flip Camera) and Michael Mina. You buy a grilled cheese on your smartphone, and you get a QR code to swipe in-store when you arrive. The back-end software ensures that you get a piping hot grilled cheese in your hands within 60 seconds of checking in.
At the event, yelpers like Ed U and Alissa A were able to indulge in gourmet cheesy melts such as The Amsterdam (Smoked gouda on 8-grain) and The Mission (jalapeno jack on sourdough) and dip it into rich creamy soups such as Tortilla Corn Soup and Italian Sausage and Pepper Soup.
The staff at The Melt kept the food coming throughout the event, and everyone left with full stomachs and big cheesy grins. They even brought out a special off-the-menu S'more Dessert Melt full of delicious gooey Nutella. Yum!
Keane L summed up the event perfectly: "Heaven must be like this, I thought to myself…"
