In May 2011, Daniel Curtis was injured in a diving accident, which resulted in a severe spinal cord injury. His family, friends and co-workers teamed up with Lone Star Paralysis Foundation to stage a fundraiser in July 2011, raising over $65,000 to help with his medical expenses not covered by insurance. Daniel and the Lone Star Paralysis Foundation are continuing their mission of raising awareness about the spinal cord injury community and helping those in need of medical assistance.

Many of Austin’s most celebrated chefs and restaurants will be there, including:
Chef Chris Wilson of The Carillon;
Chef Kenzie Allen of Searsucker;
Chef Joe Anguiano of VOX Table;
Chefs John Bates and Brandon Martinez of The Noble Sandwich Co.;
and the list goes on.
The event will also include:
*Open bar featuring beer, wine, and specialty cocktails from Treaty Oak Distillery and Patron Spirits Company.
*Hector Ward & The Big Time, an original nine-piece Latin Grooves Funk Blues Orchestra will be performing
*The live and silent auctions will have some incredible items
Proceeds from the Pay it Forward event will benefit the Lone Star Paralysis Foundation and the community it serves in the following ways:
$7,500 towards purchasing and repairing equipment for the community gym
$6,000 towards helping purchase equipment for those with inadequate funding
$2,000 towards helping community members with transportation to and from the gym
$5,000 towards the “Living the dream” scholarship
$6,000 towards recreational sports
After funds are raised for all above categories, additional money raised will help fund Daniel's continued medical expenses up to $10,000 annually. The Lone Star Paralysis Foundation will hold these funds and pay medical providers directly.
After that any additional funds raised will go towards the Lone Star Paralysis Foundation general fund.
