Yelp Pittsburgh celebrates the Day of the Dead @ Steel Cactus

All Hallows Eve was filled with less trick and more treats at the Steel Cactus in Shadyside where we hosted Yelp's Day of the Dead Elite Event. So gather 'round for this tantlizing tale…

"If a cool atmosphere is what you seek the Steel Cactus has this in spades" exclaims Will B. It may have been a chilly, rainy night but we were "situated in the upstairs patio with a retractable
roof. Yeah you heard me right. So in the summer the
roof's off and in the winter the roof closes and the heaters
switch on." The party on the patio included a tantalizing taco bar complete with flour and corn tortilla's; pork, chicken and tufu to stuff in the mix; queso and salsa to drizzle on top; fresh cheese, lettuce and their famous gaucamole to garnish. Serious "Taco Tuesday sticklers" Ran L, "was sooooo excited to see them served up! The
make-your-own toppings buffet was a great idea. The guac was so yummy
that by the end I was literally spooning it into my mouth… No need for
chips!" As Lauren G recalled, "In my opinion, like the GM said, it's very
hard to get Tex Mex right. I thought the food was the PERFECT amount
of spice. Very
impressed that they make it all fresh. Love hearing that." 

But they didn't stop there, a bar full of beers, including local Full Pint Brewery and the Mexi mainstay Dos Equis, were on tap while the requisite Margs were a'flowin'. "The variety of speciality drinks was more than you usually see at a
Mexican restaurant" and Jennifer G enjoyed the "Yinzerita – a margarita with
a corona that gradually poured in as you sip. Trying such a unique
drink made it worth the trip!" Cheers to that!

Elites and their guests got into the spooky spirit by dressing the part. The dead, the daring diva (Cher!) and the dangerous (Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) all showed up for a fabulous evening. Best costume went to the dazzling duo of Sonny and Cher aka Gary R and his wife Elaine, who won a gift certificate to return and some sweet Yelp schwag. While runner up couple Jason F and his lovely wife Diana won as Where's Waldo(s). We found them… Plus they scored some sweet Yelp T's. But that didn't end the creative costumes, only the pictures do the surreal scene justice.
