May is Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month (APIHM) – a time to recognize the contributions and influence Asians and Pacific Islanders have on our history and culture. It’s celebrated in May to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States on May 7, 1843 as well as to mark the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869.
To celebrate APIHM, Yelp OTP hosted Sips & Slurps, a month-long series highlighting different drinks and noodle dishes from various Asian and Pacific Islander cultures (think boba, ramen, pancit, etc!). Throughout the month, Yelpers cooked pancit and tasted makgeolli on Zoom, received special discounts through check-in offers on Yelp and more. Members of the Yelp Elite Squad also had the opportunity to slurp on ramen, dan dan noodles, and many more.
Our community loved taking advantage of these offers and exploring new businesses. Here are a few highlights:
“Sweet Spot has won me over, definitely will be serving these up at parties and summer bbq’s.” – Sam H.
“Let me say that the noodles were cooked just right and when combined with the peanuts and beef as my protein, it was a marriage made in culinary heaven. It was just excellent and there is no other way to describe the meal… Fire Stone definitely lit a “fire” under me that will be hard to extinguish. I will definitely be back for Round 2.” – Allen R.
“I’m so thankful to have been part of this elite week. Being from Hawaii and of Asian/Pacific Islander ancestry, I was happy to start the month celebrating my heritage with fresh fish and great Asian cuisine – and for free!” – Gretchen S.
Special thanks to these 8 great local businesses across the OTP area that took part in this year’s APIHM celebration!
