Retro-fab Rockafella's and Rockettes joined us for an evening of indulgence and extravagance to celebrate local businesses at Yelp OTP's biggest event ever… A Yelper Party open to elites and non-elites alike… Yelp's Deco-dence!
Yelpers celebrate the art, class and entertainment of the 1930s and 1940s at Marietta's DECO-dent Earl Smith Strand Theatre, in historic Marietta Square.
Each suggested donation of $10 got Yelpers a raffle ticket for glorious prizes, and awarded Strand, a non-profit theatre built in 1935 and updated in 2009, a grand total of $1200!
Seven food vendors graced us with some of their best bites:
Red Sky Tapas: Blackened Ahi Tuna
Roasted Corn and Lobster Dip
Frozen Pints Craft Beer Ice Cream
Fatty's of Atlanta: Italian Ice, Sausage, peppers & onions, Sabrett hot dogs topped with Fatty's secret sauce
Harry's Farmer's Market: Various cheeses
Knotty Pretzels: not only rocked their own table, but they strategically and smartly placed their savory bites on each bar as well!
Noche Vinings: Mini pork tacos and house-made hummus.
Happy Hour Confections: Bourbon Chocolate Chip Cookies, Lemon Hefeweizen Cupcakes and Espresso Stout Brownies
Drinks were not hard to find with three open bars (one on each floor) available featuring:
Red Hare Brewing Company
Batch 19
Leinenkugel Big Eddy Imperial IPA
Crispin Cider Original
Savida Sangria
Our Exclusive Vodka Sponsor: Tito's Vodka with which specialty drinks were made: Bloody Marys, Baybreezes (vodka, cranberry juice and pineapple juice), Red Cadillacs (vodka and cranberry juice), and City Juice (vodka tonic with lime).
All those great drink sponsors – it only makes sense to invite the coolest driver service around! Uber was also on site offering $40 off travel to and from the event plus a free day-glo tank top for all new users who signed up at the event.
The night did not lack any in amusements. The remarkable Joe M. Turner, Atlanta Magician moved around the three floors of the event, astonishing and entertaining Yelpers with tricks of card, dice and coin. Also mobile, Thimblerig Circus had Yelpers gasping and speechless with fire-breathing, sword swallowing, juggling, balancing – and even a nail in a nostril. Both acts also performed on stage in the theatre between showings of black and white (and sometimes silent) films of newsreels of the 30s and a special on Coney Island.
Meanwhile in the Lounge, Amy Baldwin, crooned tunes of the 30s and 40s and charmed Yelpers relaxing over candle-lit tables and on fancy couches and chairs.
Mike Snowden, musician and handcrafter of cigar box guitars rocked the terrace with rollicking original songs and covers, while Yelpers gazed out over Glover Park in Marietta Square.
A party wouldn’t be a party without fun and fancy photos to share and remember it by. Tucked away in a very accessible and exciting space on the theatre balcony, LeahAndMark & Co set up a photobooth for funny faces, pretty poses and evidence of an exciting event! Roving photographers Steve MacArthur and LeahAndMark’s interns caught candids at every turn!
Additional big thanks to Eddie’s Trick Shop for extending a 10% discount on costumes, accessories and props for the first 27 days of June to anyone who mentioned Yelp.
