Orlando yelpers kicked off the week right and took over BART – a Bar, Arcade, and Art Gallery! "The formula is a perfect blend of finely crafted beers with a splash of local art, surrounded by classic arcade games from the 70's, 80's and 90's. BART transports you away from the daily grind and back to the happiest places of your youth."
We began the night with an ice breaker and community challenge where yelpers were encouraged to mix and mingle and get to know more about other yelpers. Lucky winners who were picked from those who completed the challenge scored a pair of tickets to this month's Downtown Food & Wine Fest where more than 20,000 foodies and wine lovers experience unique local cuisine paired with wines from around the globe – Saturday, February 23rd and Sunday, February 24th. Congrats to Melanie K., Brandi B., Charms J., Heather R. and Lisa M.
Yelpers are always supporting amazing non-profit organizations and this month we celebrated: United Yorkie Rescue: a family dedicated to the rescue and well-being of the Yorkshire Terrier. We raised almost $200 for the orgnaization! They pledge to rescue as many Yorkies and Yorkie mixes in need as is logistically and physically possible. In addition, they are devoted to providing love, nourishment, rehabilitation, socialization, and "pawsome" forever homes!
Dennis Hansbury and girlfriend Destiny Harding were the feature art show at BART and have received a lot of praise for it. Seen in some of the photos of the event, check out their full array of pieces at deviantart.
We enjoyed a lovely craft beer selction, an array of Angry Orchard ciders and some wine. We were spoiled by Orlando's first authentic Portuguese food truck and catering
"Awesome event! My appreciation for BART is already chronicled in a separate review – and it was a perfect place for a small Elite Event. Craft beer, cider, wine, TRON and video games. Also, the owners are the nicest people ever." Alyx K.
The first authentic Portuguese food truck and catering in Orlando, Bem Bom served a wide array of delicious, freshly made dishes. “Chef Chico,” brings an international cooking background to the Orlando area. He grew up in the Azores and developed a love of fresh seafood and beef used in many Portuguese dishes. In each dish, we could taste the love behind each ingredient and layer.
Freshly made chips and queso, Mango Painted Fish Tacos, Mini Lamb Burger on Portuguese Roll, Chicken Piri-Piri Skewers, Chourico Bites with Pineapple Salsa, Truffle fries and and 18th century pastry, Natas, a Portuguese egg custard tart.
The Flour Shop — a custom cake and cookie boutique in Winter Park, Florida. They specialize in creating memories through the art of cake for celebrations. We sampled lovely minis of “Oh My Gosh” Chocolate Ganach, “Red Velvet” Elvis, and “White Wedding.”
"The Flour Shop offered up some of the most moist, little red velvet cupcakes. I got to look through John W's phone (the owner of The Flower Shop) too look at pics, and the custom birthday cakes they make are a-MAZING!" – Brandi B.
Our fun, mingling local photog man, Jim White, was on premises catching all the action. Check out all of the awesome photos here or on our YelpOrlando Facebook page!
