This past Monday night, beer distributor extraordinaire Tenth & Blake hosted a beer dinner for the books at seminal Milwaukee favorite, the always impressive Maxie's Southern Comfort and believe you us… we were treated. We were wined (rather, brewed!) and dined with five courses of food and beer pairings carefully curated and worked through by Tenth & Blake and the Maxie's kitchen. Amaze.
Gathering: St. Stefanus Belgian Blonde Ale with assorted bar snacks, including a dried fruit/chicken & potato skin trail mix, goat-cheese stuffed peppers, rye toasts, and more, which leads us to…
Course #1: Batch 19 Prohibition Era with gulf style broiled oysters and french bread… dear god, those oysters! (Go. Get them. You will *not* be sorry!) Then, onto…
Course #2: Worthington's Red Shiel Pale Ale with a Fish 'N' Chips featuring North Atlantic Coastal Sole, sweet potato fritters, apple slaw, and pickled pepper tartar. Drooling, and at this point, you may be feeling a bit full, but wait for it…
Course #3: Pilsner Urquell paired with a crispy roasted veal breast, stewed blackeyed peas, saffron noodle, kale, and natural jus. Oh mah gah!
Course #4: Just when you thought you couldn't any longer, you're served a Worthington's White Shield English IPA paired with a prime Miman Rand Beef Flat Iron Steak with carmelized brussels sprouts, rosemary roast garlic duchess potato, and Stilton butter. WHAT?!
And to round it out, Course #5: Leinenkugal's Big Eddy Baltic Porter with a dark chocolate cherry torte and porter ice cream. Food coma commence.
Everything was incredible… a huge thanks to Mark and Dan of Tenth & Blake for walking us through the pairings and educating us on these fabulous beers, and to owners Joe, Dan, and the amazing staff of Maxie's who provided us with beyond impeccable food and service. Now get Yelping, Milwaukee! Who wouldn't want to get in on elite-tasticness like this just for loving their city?
Cheers, beers, amazing bites, and until next time… SYOY!
