As part of MKE’s Hot & New – an event series celebrating the city’s many amazing entrepreneurs – Yelpers were invited to a virtual visit to the Dubbel Dutch Hotel. This historic, boutique, two-story mansion made its official debut to Milwaukee in July of 2020 after fighting through the turmoil of the pandemic. Dubbel Dutch draws its inspiration from the unique Flemish-style shaped gables, crowned with finials and the Flemish-Dutch spelling for “double,” so it’s understandable why folks were so eager to get a peek inside!
Attendees jumped on Zoom and were introduced to the faces behind the mansion, House Managers, Brady, Meghan, and Kelly. The tour kicked off in the hotel’s Tavern – a separate space where custom cocktails are to be enjoyed. Kelly walked Yelpers through a mixology demo where they learned how to create both an “Early Sunset” and “Cold Brew Martini.” Because folks had access to the recipe ahead of time, many mixed themselves drinks at home to enjoy throughout the remaining tour.
Next, Brady led everyone through the common areas, equipped with unique wallpaper, furnishings, decor, and 19th century architectural details and finishes. The Yelp community was very fond of how many local brands were incorporated in the hotel, from bathroom soaps and glassware, to distinctive artwork and wall coverings.
The lens was then passed on to Meghan, who led the tour through some of the contemporary yet historic guest rooms. With the designer’s goal to create a space that’s more like a home than a traditional hotel, you can certainly get a sense of the juxtapositions. Urban and natural. Whimsical and traditional. Each guest room and all common areas offer a variety of playful and refined layouts with custom-built modern furniture.
By the end of the virtual visit, guests were eager to enter the special giveaway: a one-night staycation at this gorgeous, restored mansion! Following the event, Yelper feedback included Natalie R commenting, “I adore these older buildings and love the detail, craftsmanship and history within the walls.” and Lori L pointing out, “This is such a quaint place for people who want to experience a beautiful old mansion. Instead of opting for a chain hotel, be sure to book a room here.”
Many thanks and much appreciation to the Dubbel Dutch team for this safe adventure inside of Milwaukee’s new boutique hotel! It’s clear that guests were blown away and will be both recommending this spot to out-of-towners, and stopping in to enjoy the Tavern IRL (in real life). Relive this 5-star experience by reading the reviews!
