"There are so many good things to say about this amazing event that I have no idea where to begin. No idea. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Yelp has made my London life so awesome I can't ever express enough gratitude.” - Nava N
We’re right there with Nava, there were so many fantastic things to say about Yelp London’s last event, we don’t know where to start. The food, the drinks, the atmosphere and the beautiful space. It was Yelp’s Legendary Steak Dinner at Sophie’s Steakhouse and it was indeed legend – wait for it – dary. Legendary!
As soon as guests arrived, they were allowed to chose a drink off Sophie’s fantastic menu. Chili mixtures, elderflower and champagne martinis, there were so many choices.
“I decided to go all guns blazing with a martini which had egg white in it. Have you ever heard of a cocktail with egg white? It was delicious,” Jules H told us.
After chatting with owners Sophie and Rupert, guests were then lead to their tables, each spot with it’s own personalized placemat… And then the food began…
It was three courses, so amazing; we’re simply going to let the Yelpers speak about it:
First Course: “We started off our meal with a mixed board of terrines of mackerel, ham hock and chicken liver pate. My God, the chicken liver pate was something out of this world. I would eat that on anything at any time, ever.” – Linzi M
Second Course: “A porterhouse and a cote du bouef were the stars of the show, and these were cooked to perfection. They came with béarnaise and horseradish sauce, but frankly the meat was so good on its own I didn't bother! The sides were creamed spinach, chips, a house salad and some mashed potato, and all of these were just spot on. Up there with the best steak I've eaten.” – Fotios T
Final Course: “At this point I have no idea how I made any space in my stomach… but dessert came out and I made room! The pineapple carpaccio with coconut ice cream was my favourite, followed by the sticky toffee pudding and the cheesecake. Wine was on flow all night and the company was excellent.” – Amy S
It was the little things that really made the event. For Jessi P, it was the service: “The wait staff were friendly and attentive and ooooh the waiter made eye contact when he handed me my plate across the table. Staff can make such a difference to the tone of an evening, and they were nothing but encouraging of our lighthearted mood.”
Everyone left the evening with a goodybag, that included a bottle of Sophie’s homemade steak sauce.
In the end, Valerie S was so impressed, she had to write a love letter to the restaurant :
“Dear Sophie and Rupert: I am so completely astounded at the level of hospitality showered down on me and my fellow Yelpers as we descended en masse on your restaurant on an ordinary Monday evening. Your staff were impeccable–from the bartenders who plied us with the most amazing cocktails I've had yet in London (the espresso martini changed my life when it comes to chilled coffee drinks) to the table staff who seamlessly delivered courses and refilled glasses and made recommendations and generally just made me feel like I was in the best hands possible on a walk through Steak Town.”
If we could, we would live in Steak Town. But don’t just take our word for it. But don’t just take our word for it. You can read all the reviews right here as well as check out all the pics by Jason Ellis on the Official Yelp Flickr Page.
Until next time,
