#YelpHelps is alive and well more than ever here in Maine. We are happy to bring it back for a third year in a row, and so are our Yelpers who – despite an extremely snowy winter season – have been coming out enthusiastically each and every month to give their time and attention to our local NPO’s.
Our #YelpHelps kicked off this year once again at the Ronald McDonald House – which provides an affordable home away from home for families of children receiving medical treatment – in Portland where we spent a Saturday afternoon cleaning and organizing. Check out the Reviews here.Shane L: “Again we kick off 2017 with some volunteering at our favorite little place in the Ronald McDonald House and it, as always, is food for the soul and makes me get the feels thinking about how important it is that we are helping this important charity.”
In February, we helped the Preble Street Resource Center – which strives to create solutions for homelessness, hunger, and poverty – serve lunch to 400 Portlanders in need. It was incredibly moving to be a part of what Preble Street does three times a day every day of the year. Photos and Reviews from the day can be found here.
Courtney C: “The Yelp Helps series is one of my favorite parts of being part of the Yelp Community, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels that sentiment.”
We ended this wintery season of #YelpHelps with new friends HART (Homeless Animal Rescue Team); they provide refuge, comfort, and medical attention to cats that have been surrendered, abandoned, injured, or abused, and place them in loving homes. Cuddling kitties for a couple hours is a pretty wonderful way to spend a weekend morning. Check out the Reviews and lots of Photos of cats here!
Beth S: “This was my first ever volunteer event with Yelp and it didn’t disappoint!..I was thrilled to meet the volunteers…I’m glad I joined in on this event.”
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has,” said Margaret Mead. Once a month the Yelpers in Maine get together to volunteer at a local non-profit. We’d love to have you join us! After all it feels good to do good, especially as a community for a community so RSVP here to get your volunteerism on!
