While there's nothing wrong with being bad on occasion, there's nothing better than doing good, and last week in Albuquerque the inaugural Yelp Helps celebration kicked off strong partnerships with some of the very, very best. The general public and the Yelp community descended on the South Valley Economic Development Center for an evening of eats, drinks, and connections with our nonprofit rockstars.
The stellar attendees were literally treated to some of the city's best food and drinks. Terrific green chile 'n queso sliders (topped with Doritos) awaited visitors of Bistronomy B2B; ahhmazing wood-fired pizza came out of Ahhromahs mobile oven; holy cannoli, Joe's Pasta House piled on the plates; a bevy of yummy, gluten-less baked goods decked out the Mean Bao table. Everything was washed down with local and national brews from Admiral Beverage; Cowboy Up mixed some tasty, all natural energy drinks; and Squeezed Juice Wagon blended some astounding green and orange smoothies.
Let's not lose sight of why we came, though. Some of the most vibrant, impactful, and downright cool organizations in and around the south valley came out to show off how they help Albuquerque. La Cosecha, The Mixing Bowl, TEDxABQ, Rio Grande Community Development Corporation, Cornucopia Family Services, PB&J Family Services, Delicious New Mexico, Accion New Mexico and Casa de Salud provided color and substance to the party, and then there was A/WAY, who brought plates, silverware, and wash tubs. Attendees washed their own dishes and kept the trash bins free of styrofoam, plastic and paper. Crazy, feel-good smart.
Thank you to Asa Kennedy for his on-site artistic rendering of the evening, and Bébé La La for the sweet sounds. Big props to Aimee K for coming out from St. Louis to make sure the show was a success. The Center was the perfect venue for this inaugural celebration, the hub of nonprofit energy in the south valley, and the hosts were great at letting the night unfold with ease.
Did you miss it, or just want to catch your smiling face in the photos? Lucky for you, Eon Photography was there to capture the evening (peep the photos here).
