This past Friday night, over 70 Elite yelpers and their guests indulged locally in the sweet life celebrating the newly bustling South of Lorain district of Ohio City. And who better to host us sugar coated yelpers to Get Sweet In SoLo than Campbell's Sweet Factory in their new store front?
The dessert studded evening started with a cupcake tree loaded with different flavors, like salted caramel and red velvet, all made on-site at Campbells. The chocolate lovers rejoiced with tastings of coated gummy worms, coconut mounds, Oreos and more. But what Campbell's party would be complete without their signature treat—popcorn. We're talking a line of over 15 flavors to sample, including garlic parmesan, dill pickle and their most popular, the dichotomy. Owner Jeff Campbell and family also whipped up and handed out fresh batches of caramel popcorn balls, still warm and chewy on the inside. Carol L swooned, "I'm telling you, it doesn't get much better than this."
The noshing didn't end there. Neighborhood restaurant and bar, Touch Supper Club, came to the rescue with some savory snacks. You know, just in case we needed to feel better about eating something other than treats. They served up delicious crustinis covered with coffee-braised pulled pork, freshly prepared salsa, homemade southwest sauce and chives. After scarfing way too many of these crunchy delights, Peter W exclaimed, "my pancreas cussed me out and gave me the finger." I know more than a few yelpers who'll be heading back to Touch for their weekly specials, like burger Mondays, gourmet taco Thursdays (featuring that delish pulled pork) and free sushi Fridays. And let's not forget Magic Hat, who supplied kegs of #9 to quench our thirst from eating all these noms.
The bustling event spilled out onto the sidewalk where there were tables set up all along the street, loaded with yelpy schwag. Guitarist and songwriter, Ty Kellogg, serenaded yelpers with his folky tunes while neighboring boutiques, Room Service and Salty Not Sweet kept their doors open extra late to allow guests to shop. Roxanne O "loved browsing through the nearby stores and picked up a couple cute, handmade things from Salty Not Sweet." She gushed, "I can definitely see myself heading back to Room Service to do some gift shopping."
All Elites and guests were entered into a raffle at check-in to win a yelpy bucket chock-full of Campbell's treats and a special gift from Room Service. Congrats to Stefanie C and Young P who were lucky enough to win these bad boys!
Super-special thanks to Jeff, staff and family at Campbell's Sweet Factory, the awesome folks at Touch Supper Club and Meg of Magic Hat and North American Brewing. Katie Cutshaw of Ackey+Z Photography captured the night with phenomenal pictures. Also, thanks to the amazing Columbus CM, Chrsitina C, for driving up to help us out! This truly was a night of epicly indulgent proportions. But don't take our word for it, check out the reviews and photo page!
Until next time, SYOY!
