Recently some of our local Yelp Community got together for Birmingham’s 2nd Yelp Games. Whole Foods in Mountain Brook invited the squad out for an evening of tastings and friendly competition throughout the store. What ensued, was one of the most fun evenings we have had as a community. Before we go through the games, a special thanks to Whole Foods and their staff for an amazing night.

Game 1: Produce The Weight
In this game, teams had to grab a basket, blindly pick out produce within our target weight, and weigh it on the scale. This was a race to see who was the fastest. Blue Pants Brewery was on hand to serve up samples as we breezed through the produce section.
Winner: Black Team

Game 2: The Price Is Right
In this untimed competition, teams had to use their blind pricing skills to pick out items and get as close to $30 as they could without going over. Good People Brewing kept us going with their tasty brews as tensions rose in this one.
Winner: Green Team

Game 3: We Go Together Like Wine And Blindfolds?
Tastebuds and teamwork were the name of this game. After a brief description of the wines and cheeses, competitors had to work with their partner and figure out the pairings. Tony’s Tejas Salsa and Cahaba Brewing were nearby to enjoy.
Winner: Green, Yellow, and Black

Game 4: In Pizza We Crust
Once again, the Whole Foods Staff helped to train our competitors moments before being thrown into the pizza oven. Technique and final product were judged in a dough tossing, pizza decorating, rowdy good time. Yellowhammer Brewery helped fuel the cheering for this one.
Winner: Black and Purple

Game 5: Donut Give Up Now
A little trickery from game officials came after competitors were told to decorate their donuts in the most creative and wild way possible. Then it turned into a hilarious donut eating contest. Conveniently we had Jubilee Cold Brew Coffee within reach to keep energy high.
Winner: Green Team

Game 6: Healthy Weight
Bath salts were carefully weighed out by officials ahead of time. Teams had to evaluate the jars and guess on a multiple choice ballot of the correct weight. Each correct answer earned them a plinko chip to drop for points. Fairhope Brewing was our last tasty sample of the evening.
Winner: Yellow and Green

Game 7: Check-out Challenge
Big points were awarded for our final challenge that required competitors to use calculators and bagging skills to finish the night. This was a timed challenge, but penalties were enforced on mistakes. The competition was tight and ultimately decided our champ.
Winner and Champion: The Black Team

There is no doubt that the evening turned very competitive as we eased our way into the closing ceremony party and medal distribution. We had friend vs friend, spouse vs spouse, and Elite vs Elite. But after all the dust settled, only good memories are left. Special thanks to our sponsors for this event and of course Whole Foods for all they did to make this a Yelp Games to remember. Be sure and check out all of the photos and our Yelp Games page to get a true first hand experience.
