10月のYelpイベントはカフェハバナ東京にてYelp Food Porn Festivalの表賞式を行いました！

In October, Yelp Tokyo held its Yelp Food Porn Festival Finale Event at Daikanyama’s Cafe Habana Tokyo!

フードポルノとは？　What is Food Porn?

「Food Porn」とは日本ではまだなじみのない言葉ですが、シズル感があふれ、よだれが出てくるような美しい料理の写真のことです。高級グルメに限らずB級グルメからスイーツまで幅は広く、おいしそうな写真は人間の本能をくすぐり、すごい快感を味わうと言われています。日本語では「飯テロ」と言う似た言葉もありますね。

“Food Porn” is a word used to describe food photos that look so appetising that it almost feels guilty to look at. Maybe it’s so calorie-packed that even looking at it’s gonna ruin your diet, but screw that diet! There’s no harm in looking at these sexy food photos.

Yelp Food Porn Festival（写真コンテスト）は日本食文化の「美」を祝い、日本中そして世界中の人々に発信していく企画です。東日本では8月から10月上旬の期間で開催されました。600枚以上の素晴らしい料理写真が投稿され、当選者はジョエル・ロブションのディナー券からThe Ritz-Carlton Afternoon Teaの商品券などの豪華賞品を受賞しました。

At Yelp, we love to celebrate the beautiful food culture in Japan. That’s why we held a Food Porn photography contest in East Japan from August to the beginning of October! With over 600 sexy food photos submitted, three lucky winners were awarded with luxurious prizes from 15,000 yen to use at Ritz Carlton’s Afternoon Tea to 20,000 yen at Joel Robuchon Tokyo.

イベント参加者には当フォトコンテストの写真を集めたフォトブックをプレゼント。

Attendees of the event were given a limited edition photo book highlighting the best of the best food porn submitted.

今回のフォトコンテストの審査員の一人である、森健次さんから写真講座をしてもらいました。日本人のフード写真と外国との違いは、日本人はななめ上から撮ることが多いのに対し、外国人は真上から撮ることが多いのだとか。なるほど！講座の続きは参加者を4グループに分け、実際に撮影をしていただきました。

For our first activity, our food porn judge and professional photographer, Kenji Mori, gave us a presentation on the difference in style between Japanese food photos and foreign countries. And with a diverse crowd of Yelpers in the room, he split the attendees into four photography groups. His instruction was simple, talk with one another and take an interesting shot!

各グループはそれぞれ、カフェハバナからキューバンサンドイッチ、グリルコーン、そして色爽やかなカクテルを準備していただき、撮影を楽しみました。さて、みなさんは「モエダン」って聞いたことはありますか？断面を撮ることに萌えるという意味らしく、こちらのキューバンサンドイッチも萌え断にぴったりなんですよ。

Each group was given a plate of Cafe Habana’s Cuban sandwiches, grilled corn, and a colorful cocktail. Cutting the sandwich creates a “萌え断” (*moedan), the secret of making a sandwich sexy.

そして今回は特別にデザートとして麻布十番に今月オープンしたDUMBO Doughnuts & Coffeeのカラフルなドーナツも撮影用に持ち込みました。

After the sandwich, attendees were also given an assignment to take photos of a dessert. So, we brought doughnuts from Azabu Juban’s newest donut shop, DUMBO Doughnuts and Coffee. These huge donuts brought a lot of bright colors into the photos.

撮影後の食事を楽しみながら二つ目のアクティビティに移行！Jun TさんからのYelp写真部のプレゼンテーションを聞きました。写真部はYelpの非公式部活で、都内のクールな場所を探検しています。今の所、葛西臨海公園や川崎の工場、品川のエプソンアクアパークなどのを撮影したそうです。カメラが好きな方はぜひ参加してみてくださいね。

As Yelpers were eating the Cubanos and doughnuts, Jun T gave us a presentation and invited attendees to the Yelp Photography Club. The Yelp Photography Club is an unofficial club that explores cool photo spots in the city! Areas they’ve covered includes the Epson Aqua Park, factories in Kawasaki, and Kasai Rinkai Park.

そして誰も予想していなかったアクティビティはカフェハバナのマネージャーの松田さんによるフレアバーテンダーショーでした。火のついたボトルが宙に舞うのはYelperたちも興奮して撮影しちゃいました。最後にできあがった3色のカクテルを飲んだYelperはSuperラッキーな1日を過ごしました。

The most unexpected activity must have been when Cafe Habana’s manager, Matsudasan, started to show off his flair bartending skills! While gracefully juggling bottles and cups, he set fire on the bar counter while creating 3 beautiful cocktails.
