Last week Yelp Denver extended the luxuries of a little TLC that Labor Day brings by providing a hearty meal for 20 lucky Denver Yelpers. LoHi Steakbar: a local eatery boasting delectable salads and steaks greeted Secret Supper guests with the perfect compliment to a sunny day – the ever-so refreshing Moscow Mule. In fact, Dale Z really appreciated the copper mug cocktails, "which, whether one is about to
enjoy fast food or fine dining, is a pretty good way to start a meal."
Moving onto the fantastic fare, rounds of their decadent Blue Cheese Fondue dip was passed as a shared appetizers enjoyed by all. The rich cheese created a perfect combo with their handmade potato chips. Kate K reminisces about the "awesome" blue cheese fondue: "We make fondue on occasion at home,
and it never occurred to me to try with blue cheese. And the potato
chips were fantastic – I'm a huge fan of home made chips. I could have
eaten a whole plate (or 2) by myself," while Danielle S "almost elbowed Cheryl to get more dip."
Up next were the entree choices of Flatiron with Frites, a Roasted 1/2 Chicken with goat cheese grits, and the Big Salad Salad with beets and other fresh ingredients. Adorned with a shallot
steak sauce, it seemed the Steak took home the popular vote for the night. Not "generally a fan of sauce on a steak," VIcki P enjoyed the "light and not sweet shallot sauce. My steak
was delicious and perfectly cooked and was served with about a pound of
crispy, yummy fries." Meanwhile, Gena G opted for the 1/2 Chicken, and although the "chicken was juicy and well
seasoned, the star of my main was the side dish, the goat cheese
grits. They were creamy and almost risotto-like and I had a hard time
not eating the whole lot."
To end the night on a sweet note, Cheesecake with Amerena Cherries OR A Scoop of Gourmet Sorbet from Little Man Ice Cream was offered. Shaun S "thought that the cheesecake dessert was fantastic. It was creamy as opposed to thick like traditional New York cheesecake, and as a Manhattan Junkie (drink) I always love an excuse to an extra Amerena (or Luxardo) cherry!"
Thanks again to the most wonderful hosts and talented staff and chefs at LoHi Steakbar. To read up on more foodie highlights from the Secret Supper check out the reviews and pics here. For more information and to reserve your spot for the next Secret Supper, please visit yelp.com/events.
