This September, Yelp Elites tested their green thumbs at our Fall Potting Party with Breezewood Gardens. Breezewood is a unique spot, stocked with houseplants, pottery, gifts and so much more. They’ve been around for 40 years, upholding an excellent reputation in the community for fresh, luscious foliage along with a hometown feel and vast selection.
The evening began with a lovely spread of wine, sushi and more courtesy of Breezewood Gardens. As Yelp Elites filled their plates and browsed the shop, they were greeted by floral experts of this local business. As if their selection of flowers, succulents and hanging plants wasn’t enough, Breezewood offers accessories, home decor and super cool gifts in an airy and impressive environment. As Yelp Elite Cin P. wrote, “It felt so serene, and I love that it didn’t feel industrialized at all. In addition to the vast variety of plants, they also have a floral shop as well as non-plant gifts. The place is huge!”After browsing the tranquil garden and gift center, Elites met the evening’s expert instructor, Ingrid. Ingrid introduced the gorgeous sample pot for the evening, which included eye-popping blooms with rustic foliage in a fall container garden. Breezewood generously donated the pots, soil and plants for the evening, even allowing Elites to choose their own plants from their beautiful selection. The room bloomed with anticipation as Elites built their porch pots. As Yelp Elite Alyssa F. wrote, “I really appreciated the variety of plants to choose from and the ability to pick each individual plant for our porch pot. I had a blast trying to find the color combination and best plants to use to fill my pot.” After selecting their plants, Elites arranged their greenery from tallest to shortest plants. Ingrid provided tips along the way, including that if your potted plant is against a wall, the tallest flower or greenery should be in the back, but if it’s for a porch, then make it fun all around!
As Yelp Elite Elizabeth F. described, “Several Breezewood employees came around and helped us choose the best placements for our plants and gave us tips on how to maintain our newest creation. Everything was provided for us during this event. I was extremely appreciative of the investment the store had to put out in order for us to have a good time.”To make the perfect porch pot Ingrid guided Elites through the following steps:
- Arrange two celosias for height.
- Add a hearty mum for a pop of fall color.
- Include two ornamental peppers for texture and color.
- Mix in kale for fullness.
- Finish final details with a trailing plant such as creeping jenny, ivy or silver falls.
The evening concluded with a new understanding for using plants to truly create something beautiful. Check out the outstanding reviews and photos here. For more information about the Yelp Cleveland Elite Squad, visit yelp.com/elite.
