This May, Yelp Elites stepped into the limelight and explored Playhouse Square with a private behind-the-scenes tour. Playhouse Square is the country’s largest performing arts center outside of New York and hosts more than one million guests per year to experience live entertainment on its nine different stages.
Tour guides Joe and Barb expertly shared the history of each of the theaters. They touched on downtown Cleveland’s booming past, the original 1920’s construction, spooky ghost stories and the history of the grand murals and artwork. As the tour continued, Elites were led through dressing rooms, down spiral staircases, into side boxes, onstage, and through underground tunnels.
Throughout the tour, Elites heard stories about the famous productions that have performed at each of the theaters. As Elite HerBrina S. described, “Ever since I was a wee little girl, Playhouse [Square] has always been a place of beauty and mystery for me. So being able to hear first-hand about the history, the restoration, the artwork and the stories behind the beauty… I think I am still on cloud nine from it all!”
To end the evening, Elites passed the largest outdoor chandelier in the world as they exited the bright lights of the Theater District.
