Did you know every single day in the U.S. is some kind of national food or drink holiday? It’s true! Some are made up, some are actual proclamations by presidents. Regardless, in 2017 Yelp Maine is going to celebrEAT (see what we did there?) our way through them!
To kick off our new series, we celebrated National Pie Day on January 23rd with a side of National Meat Month, too. Our evening started off with enormous piles of BBQ chicken nachos and ended with plates of ooey, gooey Toll House Pie and Snickerdoodles Pie. Reviews and Photos from our night can be seen here.
Russell W: “If Dickens was better at alliteration, he would have wrote of a hibachi tale of two tables. But I was to busy avoiding catching on fire to pay attention to the other side. This was probably the most interesting hibachi experience I’ve had. Maybe it’s time to call it quits at the top, because it is all down here.”
For February we focused on National Chopsticks Day on the 6th. While the legitimacy of this particular holiday is dubious, the fun we had was not. A large group of Yelpers took over multiple hibachi tables and had a ridiculously good time. There was flying broccoli, forty-second streams of sake, gallons of yum yum sauce, and chopsticks were the only eating utensils allowed. Photos and Reviews from can be found here.
On March 27th we celebrated International Whisky Day. Of the many ways to celebrate one is to support a local distiller, so that’s exactly what we did at New England Distilling where we were given a, private tour filled with education, and of course, samples. We certainly raised our drams to to honor the heroes of the whisky world past, present, and future. Reviews and lots of great Photos can be found here.
Gail T: “The evening was just the right amount of enlightenment and imbibing. It was good to hear about the relationships between local companies and sustainability. I never considered myself a whiskey drinker, but after the samples, I’m sold.”
Love good food? Love good drink? Join us! Yelp CelebrEATS is open to anybody with a Yelp account. Each and every month we do something unique to celebrate these (sometimes totally made up) holidays!
