This July 24 marks Amelia Earhart Day – a day created to remember the legacy, fearlessness and advocacy of the infamous trailblazer. Not only was she the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic ocean, but an early supporter of the Equal Rights Amendment and an educator, writer and mentor.

1: International Women’s Air & Space Museum – Cleveland, OH
Located on the idyllic Lake Erie, the IWASM is a free museum illuminating the often untold stories of women in aviation and is the only museum in the country solely dedicated to women in air and space. With events like Rosie The Riveter Day, Rocket Day, and A Slice of History lecture series, visitors of all ages can get inspired with hands-on activities like airplane and rocket building, meet real women aviatrixes and browse local and national artifacts.

2: Women In Military Service For America Memorial – Arlington, VA
The Women In Military Service For America Memorial honors nearly 3 million women serving/served in the US Armed Forces starting with the American Revolution. Located on 4+ acres at the entrance of Arlington National Cemetery, the memorial features picturesque greenery, stunning architecture, but most importantly, houses a collection highlighting over 200,000+ stories of brave women.
3: Amelia Earhart Park – Hialeah, FL
Many of Amelia’s early journeys involved the city of Miami, and Amelia Earhart Park is undeniably a park for those craving adventure. This 5 lake, 515-acre park features mountain bike trails, stunning water views, dog friendly areas, water sports, playgrounds and more. Use this park as an opportunity to embrace your adventurous side and educate little ones on its namesake!

4: 1940 Air Terminal Museum – Houston, TX
Step back in time at the 1940 Air Terminal Museum! Yelpers swoon over the retro planes, photo-worthy cockpit simulator and vintage photos of women in flight. Another Yelper favorite: memorabilia from The Womens’ Airforce Service Pilots (WASPs), a group organized at the beginning of World War II to provide trained women aviators to fly military aircraft.
5: International Forest of Friendship – Atchison, KS
Started in 1976 in Amelia Earhart’s birthplace, the International Forest of Friendship is an arboretum and living memorial founded by the city of Atchison and the Ninety-Nines, an international organization of women pilots. The forest contains trees representing all the states in the USA and countries where aviation honorees reside. Each tree has its own flag and the forest even features a tree from Amelia Earhart’s grandfather’s farm.
