It's no secret around our city that Kendall Square is the home of all things technological. This industrial hood houses many bio-med giants and web-centric companies that are gaining momentum and securing this square's position as the next Silicon Valley. But what about eats, drinks and just plain fun? Turns out, Kendall is packed with places to fill your belly, quench your thirst and get your butt in gear! And on October 14, 2009 Yelp Boston community members, city dwellers and urban adventurers alike gathered at the incredible Microsoft New England Research & Development Center to celebrate this neighborhood's restaurants, bars, fitness centers and general ability to rock it out!
Though there was no travel plans required for this party, guests lined up to snag their exclusive Passports, filled with discounts to some of the top-rated Kendall Square businesses! Once inside, Daryn F loved walking down the stairs from the eleventh to the tenth floor, taking in the gorgeous views of the Boston skyline, while Hisham K cheered as he watched the "huge-ass screen where yelpers were jamming out to the Beatles Rock Band," brought to us by Harmonix! For more performances, the crew from Mosaic was pulling out all the laughs with their comedy routine, the Boston Underground Film Festival kept it creepy with a showing of film shorts and Illius Rock was laying down danceable beats on the first floor!
After working up a sweat, party goers could chow down on specially prepared dished from the nine different restaurants present, including Bambara, Cambridge Brewing Company, Craigie On Main, Le Cordon Bleu Boston, Amelia's Trattoria, MexiCali Burrito Co., Tommy Doyle's, Legal Seafoods and Zigo. We think Sarah G summed up the yum yum best: "Baked brie, teriyaki salmon, butternut squash quesadillas, clam
chowder, butternut and sage tortellini, hob knob chocolate, fresh pork sandwiches, butternut bisque with crab meat, irish stew, rolled
salmon and capers, and chocolate chip cookies!" And in case you were thirsty, Orange V brought that smooth citrus vibe with their 007 cocktail and Domaine de Canton's ginger lemonade was enjoyed all night. Wine and bubbly was plentiful, thanks to Barefoot Wine, while Pumpkin Ale from CBC and cider-inspired Pearl Vodka cocktails kept everyone in seasonal spirits!
And that was not all! Erin M got her knots nixed in the massage lounge, sponsored by Google and Joint Ventures, while Ashley P got beautified with a uniquely designed henna tattoo by Mo-Henna Art Entertainment. Cambridge Athletic Club, FitCorp and Equilibrium were on hand with lessons on how to stay fit, while Photo Fun Box and Kendall Press caught all the action on camera!
And the best part of it all? This evening's proceeds went to benefit East End House, who were on hand collecting donations for their various community programs. Plus, this action-packed event kicked off a week of discounts throughout Kendall Square from October 14 to October 21! Missed the party but still want in all of the exclusive offers? Download the passport!
A special thank you to Microsoft New England's Research & Development Center, as well as the entire staff of Clearly Creative and the Kendall Square Association for all of their time and hard work in helping to make this event so fabulous!
See you next time!
