The weekend before Valentine’s Day, friends, family and couples ventured through the Buffalo snow to the beautiful Freedom Run Winery where they were treated to an evening of delicious wine tastings and pairings. With all the sweets & treats–it was the perfect way to get in the Valentine’s spirit!
Guests were greeted with vouchers for a glass of wine and some tastings to enjoy while waiting excitedly for the pairings to begin. They settled into a large open room which had art throughout and a wall filled with wine barrels, a very unique space for a wedding or special event. We heard a little bit about the products from the winery owner and our local purveyors before we got to try the goods.
First, the wines were paired with oysters from Remington Tavern and fresh raw milk cheeses from East Hill Creamery. Many people even tried oysters for the first time- and it was a hit! Then we were treated to farm-raised brined pork from Providence Creek Farm, cooked and served with asparagus and pita by our hosts at the winery, served with a choice of dinner wine. Finally, for dessert we had vanilla almond milk and strawberry chocolates from Thinking Elvish, paired with a black currant wine.
We gave out lots of fun prizes, including a sweetheart package for Valentine’s Day ice skating at Canalside, tickets to Polar Bites (a Buffalo Zoo Fundraiser), wines from Freedom Run, cheese from East Hill and a gift card to Remington Tavern. To win, you just had to take some fun pictures on our scavenger hunt.
