Sunny Side Kitchen has been a local favorite in North County San Diego since opening in 2015. Instead of your typical breakfast menu filled with pancakes and scrambled eggs, customers at Sunny Side Kitchen start their day with hot sandwiches, soups, and salads made with love and fresh, local ingredients. Recently they invited members of the North County San Diego Yelp Elite Squad to wake up with one of their amazing panini that helped them land a spot on Yelp’s Top 100 Places To Eat 2017 & 2018 and has everyone on Instagram singing, “wake up Escondido!”
I came around 12:30 on a Saturday and it was buzzing with people enjoying a meal. I ordered our Wake Up Escondido sandwich and the watermelon lemonade. The sandwich is a Nashville hot chicken inspired breakfast sandwich with small batch Hoff sauce, house roasted hand shredded chicken, baked egg, dill pickle slices, greens, havarti cheese, munster cheese, and parmesan cheese. Wow what a great, complex sandwich! Not to mention the watermelon lemonade was incredibly refreshing and you could tell how authentic and real the ingredients are.Yelp Elite Carmen V

How’d Sunny Side Kitchen get started?
Sunny Side Kitchen was born in 2011, when Kate was laid off from her PR job. After a late-night soul-search she decided she wanted to do something completely different …make cookies. Fast-forward through a few years of farmers markets and brewery popups to 2015 when we opened the restaurant at 155 S. Orange Street in Escondido. We have been making cookies – plus panini, soups, salads and lemonades – ever since.
What are you best known for?
We’re all about panini at Sunny Side Kitchen. Hot, melty, grilled-to-order sandwiches. Our best-seller is a breakfast panini called The Works, which put Sunny Side on Yelp’s radar as part of its Best Breakfast Sandwiches in America list in 2020.
