Cafe Biere is famous for it's 20+ varities of mimosas, cheese-crusted Monte Cristos, and…to our occassional sadness…hour-long waits for their infamous Sunday Funday brunches.
But! Yelpers skipped the lines and went straight for the mimosa pitchers on Sunday night, during Yelp's Elite-only BFD (Brunch for Dinner) Pajama Party. The dress code was strictly enforced, and Yelpers gladly complied with the cozy-chic theme sporting footed onesies, robes and slippers for this afterdark pajama-jam…with a grown-up twist. In between sips of tamarind mimosa, John B realized "I never had this much fun sporting my Raiders onesie as a young
tyke. Of course that could be because the contents of my sippy cup,
weren't quite as potent as what is on the menu at Cafe Biere."
Indeed, this wasn't the PJ party of your childhood. "I don't know what kind of pyjama parties you guys were going to back in
the day," notes Troy M, "but mine definitely did not include live DJs, dance floors,
mimosas, and bongos" like Cafe Biere's rendition. The amped-up party had Craig F dancing his way over "to the
mimosa bar where bottomless mimosas of all varieties were being poured.
Strawberry, Mango, Tangerine, Lychee, Guava, Coconut, and more oh my!" Crispin Cider mixed up a mean orange-serrano cider cocktail to kick things up a notch. Meanwhile, Louis H admired the enthusiastic wait staff "sprinting across the room with platters of pulled pork
sliders, fried chicken, home fries, and French
toast covered in fruit compote" to keep the packed house of Elites noshing and grooving all night.
Bedtime was set for 8:30pm, but the Cafe Biere staff insisted that Yelpers stay until the mimosas ran dry and all the platters were gobbled clean. This kind of hospitality is what makes Cafe Biere- a tiny resto in a lesser-known corner of Emeryville – the locally-loved establishment that it is, earning raves from Yelpers for their all-day brunches that turn into parties every weekend. Rachel G got a taste of this family-style vibe at the PJ Party, recalling "it was like going to a restaurant owned by a relative." John B felt like he was "crashing an after hours employee-only party." A pretty dreamy scenario, if you ask these Yelpers.
As with all Yelp Elite Events, the goal is taking the Yelp community offline, matching those avatars with a real face, and forging new friendships with Yelpers and biz owners alike. Karen Z feels that PJs are the key to this type of bonding, adding "now that we've worn our pajamas together, I feel that much closer to you all."
