Madison Yelpers came together to twist the night away at Twist & Yelp, Madison’s First Yelper Party, on July 12, 2018. Attendees generously donated to Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin, raising enough for 1,119 meals for those in need.
The main floor of the High Noon Saloon played host to seven great local businesses providing complimentary bites and sips. Mijo Frozen Treats greeted folks at the door with samples of their creamy and decadent dark chocolate ice cream, hand-dipped from their custom ice cream cart. Fuegos Steak•Tapas•Vegan had a choice of vegan mushroom nachos or a superbly-spiced lamb meatball.
Across the way was Banzo, serving up some of their delightfully smooth roasted red pepper hummus that was topped with lemon tahini and pomegranate molasses. Market veggies like purple carrots made for the perfect utensils. At the small bar, True Coffee Roasters and NessAlla Kombucha offered an array of non-alcoholic beverage options. The two even did an on-the-spot collaboration with True’s Decaf MWP Brazil and NessAlla’s fruity ‘booch for a refreshing summer treat.
Parthenon Gyros rounded out the savory side with their baby gyros, mini versions of their signature dish. The gyro meat blend is made in house and the tzatziki is cultured by Parthenon too. The mini pitas packed a ton of flavor, and the sauce made the veggie version memorable.
Capping off the circuit was the dessert table from Monona Bakery & Eatery and Gail Ambrosius Chocolatier. Attendees had their choice of chocolate or vanilla mini cupcakes topped with a colorful swirl of buttercream frosting from the bakery. The chocolatier’s offering was a rich, lightly chewy salted caramel. The dark chocolate and caramelized sugar paired perfectly for a sophisticated sweet.
In between samples, attendees had a range of entertainment options including watching go-go dancers tear up the dance floor, listening to deep soul cuts from Andrew Winistorfer of Vinyl Me, Please, viewing vintage film clips on the big screen, and having their faces painted with groovy designs by Antsy Pants Paints. The Soap Opera, Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream, Ian’s Pizza, and Rockhound Brewing Company provided prizes for the winners of the twist and costume contests, and photographer Joel Ondercin was on hand to capture some stunning pictures of the night.
