If cinnamon scented pinecones and Donny O crooning Christmas classics in your coche are any indication, it's the holiday season! And while the weather outside is not too frightful (45 ain't bad folks), Tucson yelpers made a list, checked it twice and set sail for MAST in the lost barrio for Give Local, Get Love: A shop local soiree to benefit Local First Arizona!
The focus for this very vintage, family-friendly evening was shopping local this season, avoiding the big box mega malls and supporting the local guys whenever possible. MAST was a great backdrop, owned by 3 crafty women who work like holiday elves to make gift giving easy! In addition to jewelry, furniture, place settings and prints, the place also features shoe shine kits, ink and quill gift sets and some amazing lighting fixtures that would brighten the Grinch's holiday.
Tom Walbank set the soundtrack for the evening while yelpers shopped, sipped and savored. Rusty of Café a là C'Art served up savory goat cheese bites and tasty palmiers, in addition to cream puffs, pumpkin cheesecake bites and chocolate mousse squares that in a word were suhweeeeeet! Allie and David of the United States Bartenders Guild made sure nobody went home thirsty by playing off the retro theme and mixing up a crafty Collins and merry Manhattan that warmed yelpers' insides!
Even the kids got into the spirit of the season, working with Autumn of Little Bird Nesting Company to craft one-of-a-kind gingerbread ornaments, while the adults had their shoes shined by Kathy of The Great American Shoe Shine Company at Tucson International Airport and others tested out quill pens. Some folks even dipped into ink to create vintage holiday gift tags and greeting cards, WRITE ON!
It wouldn't be a Yelp event without some awesome pics, this time care of Casia and Eric Fletcher of purplenickel studio. They asked party goers why they shopped local and took awesome shots of merry messages, in addition to Elite Yelper Jennifer D who grabbed crowd shots of our evening.
All in all it was a great kick-off to a month of shopping locally, and we were even able to raise some bucks for Local First Arizona who works to keep our local economy thriving (hmmm that sounds familiar)! Thanks to Mellow, Sophie and Tasha of MAST for opening up their space, Tom for our tunes, Allie and David for the draaaanks, Kathy for shining up yelper kicks, Autumn for keeping the kids crafty, Jennifer for the crowd shots which you can see here, Casia and Eric for the photobooth shots here, and everyone who traveled in the rain to shop it likes it's hot.
