20 Yelpers gathered at Isabella’s Ice Cream brand new shop on 4th Ave to get the inside scoop with owners, Kristel and Dominic Johnson. Yelpers got a tour of the production space in addition to a first-hand look at how the Lavender-Vanilla flavor is made and got to sample the freshly made batch! And that was just the beginning! We capped things off with a delightful sampling that included ice cream served in freshly made waffle cones, donut ice cream sandwiches, bonbons, and ice cream cookie sandwiches.
Some unique factoids we think all locals should know:
The business started the business in 2011 after designing an electric version of a Ford Model T as their ice cream truck, which is 100% solar powered.
The ice cream at Isabella’s is completely made from scratch with only natural ingredients — no stabilizers or fillers.
Each small batch starts with fresh cream and milk sourced from a local, family-owned, independent dairy in southern Arizona. They pasteurize the ingredients in their own 36 gallon pasteurizing vat.
The packaging is designed to use zero adhesives and their patented container design is 100 % recyclable.
Their ice cream flavors are sold at a variety of local restaurants, venues and markets in Tucson, as well as Whole Foods.
Truly, every single product is lovingly made! We can’t thank the Kristel and Dominic enough for sharing their story and process with us. Read what Yelpers are saying in the event reviews and check out the decadent photos, courtesy of Pedro Romano.
