Pan-Asian was on parade recently at Om Modern Asian Kitchen where Tucson Elites gathered to get a true taste of the orient. Yelp made the impossible possible with a two hour trans-pacific journey to each of the four regions that inspire Om’s Asian cuisine; China, Japan, Thailand and Vietnam. Elites donned their best tourist attire (cameras and all) for Yelp’s Lost in TranslAsian!
It was all of the fun of traveling without the jet-lag as Elites sipped and sampled from nation to nation. Kamryn C went wild in Thailand over “a tofu panang curry that was out of this world! The perfectly cooked tofu was the right amount of spicy and made my vegetarian heart sing,” says this meatless mama. In Japan, Michelle C “had the best sushi I’ve ever eaten!” She dove into the “generous cuts of ahi placed atop their rolls – with a variety of interesting sauces that infuse flavor." Sounds scrumptious!
Meanwhile Andrew B went bonkers in Vietnam for pork buns (pronounced boo-n), with “lots of components, but still oh-so-simple and clean ” it was “impossible not to love those noodles!” The trip would not have been complete without a stop in the People’s Republic. The Chinese Dan Dan noodles were a hit with Julia K, the noodles were “fat and soft and covered in yummy chicken and sauce.” Now that’s street meat worth travelling for!
What trip would be complete without a little libation? Om served up cool cocktails to refresh even the most worn out traveler. With a mix of vodka, St. Germaine elderflower, lemon juice and club soda, Amanda D exclaimed that the Bloom “was a light and refreshing cocktail; a perfect summer drink!” Danny S preferred the “truly epic ‘ginger rootini’ cocktail which packed tons of ginger flavor." For Jennifer D “yum” is the only word that could describe the Mango Bellini. “That was my first time to ever have one, and it was wonderful!” declares this perky passenger.
Congrats to Jide F for some spiffy threads, his "looks most like a tourist" outfit nabbed him a $25 gift cert. for a return trip! Many thanks are owed to owners Allen and Tina Yap for defying physics and transporting Tucson Elites on this Asian getaway, and to the entire Om staff for making this a trip to remember. As with any vacation, snap happy sightseers were encouraged to capture the magic on their own clunky cameras. Ensuring that the priceless memories weren’t over exposed, Billy K provided his professional skillz and photographed this whirlwind Asian excursion (peep his pics on our Facebook Page). Relive the journey through others by reading the event reviews! Back from the trip but haven’t had time to document your travels? It’s not too late, you’ve only just returned! Yvett R may have said it best when she yelped “the entire evening was just a blast! We had cool drinks, delicious food, a great crowd of touristy looking people and a lovely restaurant. Ah, it was so much fun!”
