This week, Elites wrestled between their inner culture vulture and foodie fan as they chose their own Elite adventure from two equally impressive events!
Saturday, the good folks from Taste Carolina Gourmet Food Tours organized a 6-stop selection of showstopping venues plus two boxes of bakery delights, ensuring our afternoon tour was full of enough bites and bevvies to knock any yelper's socks off…
Tour guides Joe and Meredith kicked us off with fresh pastries from Annelore's as we gathered at the historic Briggs Building. First on the agenda, Dos Taquitos Centro greeted us with refreshing hibiscus tea and spicy chilaquiles! Next up: braised pheasant ravioli paired with Shiraz, thanks to Jason and the staff at 18 Seaboard. Escazu — a unique bean-to-bar chocolatier — let us into their Willy Wonka-esque factory room of wonder, and after tasting some life-changing ganache, yelpers couldn't help but grab a goodie bag to-go.
Next door, Market Restaurant served up paella and hand-crafted ginger cocktails while Chef Chad chatted with us about culinary plans for spring! A hop on board the R-Line brought us to The Mint, where we enjoyed unique soup shooters and a sampler of shrimp on panini vessels upstairs in the posh bar. And though no one felt ready to conclude such an epic event, we gathered below ground at Foundation for our final stop — local beer and a Crumb cupcake escape. A mix of local lore and history coupled with tons of downtown tastings, yelpers ate their hearts out, and all we can say is: Sure glad the walking helped us keep that calorie count balanced!
Jessica K concludes, "I can honestly say, I can't wait until the next time my family members come visit me so I can finally give them a REAL tour of Raleigh via Taste Carolina. Seriously, I think I just want to go on the tour again. Every Saturday. Who's with me?" After reading this, we're sure you are! Of course, our musical mavens had plenty to brag about too! Wednesday, they enjoyed prime lower-level seating with their sweeties and took in the award-winning "In the Heights" at the Durham Performing Arts Center.
We really don't think we can top Lindsay S, as she lays it out: "Being there for "In the Heights" brought me back to reality while inspiring me when I've been having a tough time with things and needed it most. I smiled, I sang, I laughed, I cried, and I made connections. This show was great for reminding me that the music of the heart can be found close to you no matter how you're feeling. I'm still home and home is still in NC, with Yelp (Elite) Events bringing a fluttering heart and happiness to my soul again." Read more savvy sentiments from the evening on the review page!
TREMENDOUS thanks are due to everyone at Taste Carolina and Allied Integrated Marketing — but especially to Lesley, Joe, Meredith, and Marya — for sponsoring this month's very special Elite events.
Until March, I'll SYOY!
