In recent years, our region has been bustling with tremendous growth. Whether you prefer to call us Coastal Virginia, Hampton Roads, Tidewater, or the 757, there’s no question that we’ve developed a vibrant landscape all our own. Between the rich history, beautiful waterways, and increasingly delicious food scene, our diverse community deserves recognition as both a remarkable place to visit and an incredible place to live. 

Supporting our local restaurants has never been more important, and our local restaurants have never been so delicious. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of the top 50 spots to get your grub on in Coastal Virginia. Twenty-seven of these businesses have opened within the last five years, nearly half represent international cuisines, and unsurprisingly for our seaside community, a seafood restaurant snagged the #1 spot! Whether you’re craving the flavors of Southeast Asia or southern home cooking, the coast has got you covered.

Methodology: This is an all-time list of the best restaurants in Coastal Virginia according to Yelp. We identified businesses in the restaurants category, then ranked those spots using a number of factors including the total volume and ratings of reviews. This list looked at businesses in the cities of Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Poquoson, Portsmouth, Newport News, and Hampton. If a business with multiple locations appeared on the list more than once, we only included the highest rated location. All businesses on this list were marked as open as of November 3, 2020. When available, all businesses on this list have a passing health score as of November 2, 2020.
